roy 1,216
Billboard tweeted with their news article: 'Why didn't more female rappers get their due shine in 2018?' (https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/hip-hop/8490994/more-female-rappers-2018?utm_source=twitter) Reading: 'According to Ryte, the industry played a role further igniting the messy saga. “It’s interesting: [the media] will make a whole story about a woman, and they’re not gonna do that with a guy! [A label] can have a [male] artist, and they’re not trying to figure out what they were doing before they started rapping, how long they’ve been rapping -- they don’t think that way. But when a woman comes along, all of a sudden it’s like ‘Oh where did she come from?’ You can’t do that. Of course you want to know about the person, but it should always be about the record.” Marisa Mendez -- host of Dash Radio’s Marisa Explains It All -- agrees, telling Billboard: “Some of these websites do polls, like, ‘Who is your favorite, Nicki or Cardi?’ Things like that don't need to be. Let's highlight more women. I think the media enjoys the Cardi vs. Nicki narrative and in that, there isn't really room for other people. But I want it to change.” ' And with the Cardi B and Nicki Minaj argument escalating this year: the music industry focused on the two more than other talented female rappers, like Rico Nasty, Tierra Whack, NoName, Janelle Monae and CupcakKe. _____ So drop some underrated black female rappers, and talk about their talent and why they should get noticed more than other female rappers. Who should be recognised? rah rah rah rah
Red 97,946
These female rappers weren’t on the spotlight because they didn’t throw their shoes at anybody nor they didn’t defend their murderer boyfriends If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating. jamesjasper 2
There are many, some don't go by notice. My money would be on Jean Grae, a rapper who I think is incredibly underrated. Listening to her music, I just love how she keeps it real, and she distributes a lot of intelligence, similar to the fashion of Talib Kweli. In fact, she reminds me a lot of Common, in that I find both are very smart and have very interesting rhyme schemes. I also love her down-to-earth personality (she has a youtube channel), and greatly admire her. Check out Jeanius, a very good album in my opinion. Lauryn Hill strikes me as an obvious candidate and with good reason. A very different style to Jean, she is very powerful and, to me, had always been the better of the Fugees members. Check The Score by Fugees and Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. In terms of newer rappers, check out Flo Kennedy. She is very impressive and not too popular. Check out her Live art NY freestyle, she kills it. Thank You Regards James Jasper - British Coursework Help UK

JazzGa 14,614
Those rappers definitely got SOME positive press this year, for example, SZA made a lot of news for her great fashion choices and she was on many best-dressed lists. Janelle had a lot of critical acclaim for Dirty Computer, and Cupcakke's hype train just keeps growing. I only heard of Tierra Wack recently but her star is rising too. Unfortunately, the media LOVES to pit one woman against another in a false "There can only be one!!" narrartive. And people EAT IT UP, including our blessed and sweet "woke" LGBT selves in the stan community. Cardi and Nicki really capitalized on that, and I dunno if they did it on purpose or not! My old cat is a tough man, but i cant deny the way he bites my hand and he stabs me, he grabs me by my heart <
