Sarajevo is a bad place to live in for anyone... But yeah, there is a Jewish community there and I can't recall any incidents in the past decade.

Here's an interesting article for those who like to read.

I live in Sarajevo and I can assure you it’s beautiful and amazing place to live in. I’m interested as to why you think otherwise?

The hate for jews exist in Europe, but it's just covered now by the hate to Muslims because right now they are more visible and in the spotlight, Europe is still racist to anyone who is not pure blood from the specific country.

I know that you're not racist, that your friends, neighbors and family are not but Europe is too big for that small circle and you can't just make that big claim that in your city or country the Jews are living a heavenly life and there's no racism at all.

But it's not like Jews are perfect, they still see non Jews as something bad, they still call them "goy" which is for me a pretty racist word.

It's all a big circle of hate and no one is perfect, I'm sorry, but Jews, Christians, Muslims, Straight, Gays, White, Black, European, Asian, African - all racist and hateful and none is really an innocent.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

I just dont know what is the problem with Jewish people...

Somebody tell me..

All i see is they are clever and know how to treat money and these stuff.. its all seems like people and politics hate them because they are jealous

I live in Budapest Hungary and i dont see any trouble around this, theres a beautiful Synagouge here which is also the biggest in Europe :)

And i think instead of hate Europe should build a Jew friendly environment like US did in World War 2. and make a stronger economy etc

But who knows .. its so misty for me and i guess there are things that we dont and wont know :oprah:

whaaaaat, there is literally so much anti-antisemitism here in Hungary. So many (especially older people and people in the country side) blame all the country's problems on Jews. The government also actively speaks out against Jews. Just google "antisemitism in Hungary" and you'll see article after article about this issue.

This is sad. But are we surprised? The biggest threat to Jewish people is radical Islam, and that has penetrated all of Europe at this point. Is it not a coincidence?

um no, I would say the biggest threat to Jews in Europe is the rise of far right neo-nazi nationalists.

Went there last summer and it truly is such a beautiful place. The entire country is beautiful. Sure, it's not the most developed or richest but so what? The people there are so kind, hospitable and friendly compared to some other European countries (whose names I won't mention) where people are so cold and unfriendly. Would love to go to Bosnia again in the future <3

I'm a Slovak living in Catalonia (Spain).

totally true, here we have 0 antisemitism,  but it's not a big achievement because idk if there are many but I've never seen any jew or known about jew comunity here

Spoiler

slay at another GGDster living in catalonia, we must be the area with the highest concentration lmao

This being said, it is hard to imagine how can antisemitism be so alive. Like???????? it's not that it's a bada thing, I also think it's such a random thing. I don't know how to word it properly but if you reeeeeally look for it, you can imagine a (not justifiable) argument for other types of discriminations, but for this one ?????

Historically proven wrong:

You need to read up on your history. One example of a Muslim that protected a Jew is not representative of the thousands to millions of lives lost throughout history during the spread of Islam.

Honestly this might come off as humorous, but the UAE is pretty tolerant when it comes to religion. Just recently we've been celebrating the "opening" of a synagogue in Dubai. It's just a building where Jews can conduct their prayers but it's a huge step. And I think it would greatly welcome orthodox Jews who feel truly threatened in Europe.

Antisemitism in the Middle East (we can't generalize; some countries have little displays of anti-semitism while others have plenty) unfortunately exists, especially in the Levant where Jews are generally associated with Israel--doesn't make sense but unfortunately it's the case since those countries felt the impact of Israel the most.

The UAE was founded in 1972. We support Palestine but out of our solidarity with Arabs. We haven't lived through the founding of Israel to develop any associations of Jews with Israel. So people are generally anti-Israeli but NEVER anti-Judaism.

So while it's far from a liberal country, the UAE is actually somewhat of a safe haven for the Abrahamic religions. Nobody cares what religion you are, and you'll probably be harshly criticized for not being Sunni than not being Muslim. But if you're Jewish or Christian or Muslim and you're a progressive you'll hardly enjoy the country.

We're socially progressive when it comes to religious tolerance but hardly so in other areas. So pick your poison in the UAE, I guess :(

I lived there my whole life as well. The place is nice, but you can't possibly argue it's a safe city.

This is the proof you haven’t even read the links, because I gave not only one example, but NUMEROUS and from different parts of the world and different centuries. Holocaust, Inquisition, please tell us who persecuted who, the most, if you opened history books.

Just admit you want to erase all the positive periods when they lived peacefully side by side and helped each other; you want Muslims and Jews to hate each other, because you hate Muslims and you want to continue to demonize and generalize them, even tho history is literally proving you wrong.

And let me tell you something about “my history”, it’s pretty recent too, my own country mates - who call themselves Christians - systematically raped Muslim women and committed ethnic cleansing and genocide against Muslims in the 90s.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/bosnia-war-crimes-the-rapes-went-on-day-and-night-robert-fisk-in-mostar-gathers-detailed-evidence-of-1471656.html

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_during_the_Bosnian_War

That was religious persecution, but please continue trying to teach me about this topic without any proper arguments.

I don’t think it’s that bad honestly when it comes to safety.. I’ve been in much worse cities where crime and other awful stuff happen daily... But ofc it’s your opinion and I respect it

It is unfortunate that this kind of hate speech and vitriol is on the rise globally, although I don't necessarily think it is the result of immigration increasing from ME refugees that I think some members have suggested. Instead, researchers have suggested that the far-right ideology that is ever growing, particularly in eastern Europe, seem to have a stronger correlation with the rise of hate-speech and discrimination of minorities. Sygkelos (2018) shifts his attention to mostly islamophobia and the leader of the far-right Bulgarian political party ATAKA, Volen Siderov, but repeats in his discussion that this is readily comparable to issues of anti-semitism in other parts of Europe and the Western World. Personally, I personally think the issue is very complex, and this rise in racism, hate-speech, etc. is attributed to several factors, not just one group of people or religious group (that GGD members seem to love to jump to). Without a doubt, there are likely some anti-Semitic individuals that have entered from ME countries, but, there seems to be a greater link to the global conservative ideology that seems to be more common now than in the past 5-6 years (see Trump, Brazil, etc.) (Öner, 2014). Interestingly, the Öner paper I included was published in 2014, years before the refugee crisis entered mainstream discourse, and even then, researchers were suggesting that the dangerous fear mongering tactics seen in many far-right European campaigns were feeding antisemitism, this time in Germany. I think the dangers these authors have suggested are far more nuanced and  convoluted than what many members are trying to suggest. This is especially true in Eastern Europe where the Muslim population has been present for decades.

Just some scholarly sources I referenced:

Sygkelos Y. Phobic Discourses of the Far Right: The Case of Volen Siderov. East European Politics & Societies. 2018;32(3):586. Accessed December 22, 2018.

Öner S. Different Manifestations of the Rise of Far-Right in European Politics: The Cases of Germany and Austria. Marmara Journal of European Studies. 2014;22(2):85-106. Accessed December 22, 2018.

Far right rising defenitly plays a role. Radical Islamism as well. The article stated that a significant margin of the incidents are cause by radical Islam. Less than far right antisemitism though, more than far left antisemtisim.

I didn’t copied it in the OP cause I didn’t want to have an anti-Muslim thread here, but the causes for antisemtisim are not homogenous, but heterogenous with different motives.

I really dislike how these threads are getting derailed all time. Antisemitism is such a problem. I don’t want to discuss wether it’s from white Christians or Muslims. I want it to end and not scapegoat anyone.
