Apparently Warner Bros. only sent digital screeners to the SAG membership

While SPC sent both DVD and digital screeners for The Wife. :triggered:

I don't get it. The cost of of DVD screeners would be entirely negligible compared to the profits they've made off of ASIB. Are they being cheap, or are they so confident that they don't need the votes of senior members to win the awards?

EDIT: The so-called "digital screener" is literally just a protected URL link, and you need to be fairly tech-savvy to figure out how to make it play on a TV screen, or else you can only watch on the computer. It's a FACT that many older SAG/Academy members have expressed in the past that they could never be bothered with digital screeners.

Okay but what’s the problem? They still sent them and members will still see the movie. I don’t get this unnecessary negativity on here. This is honestly not a big deal.

How is this not a big deal? The SAG awards are by far the most important precursor to the Oscars, and they have PLENTY of older members who would never be bothered with a digital screener - it's literally just a protected URL link. This is a very competitive year and ASIB needs all the votes it can possibly get.

It’s 2018 and if senior members want to save their membership they will get used to new technologies and if they want to be fair (as it’s described they should be) then they’ll watch the movie anyways. I’m sure that ASIB is not the only movie they got in digital format. One of the most prominent movies for next years SAG awards and Oscars is Netflix movie and is only available in digital format.

It's because ASIB is more widely seen, plus Warner Bros already had multiple screenings for SAG members. And fyi, they had 4 nominations including Ensemble.

They don't need you to guide them how to campaign. Warner Bros is not letting their only awards hopeful flop. :saladga:

Unfortunately that's not at all how these things work. You want them to give you awards you have to adapt to them, not the other way around. And if you've been following award seasons for a while, you'd be aware of THR's ballot reveal series, in which many prominent voters have admitted to not seeing all the nominated films before casting their vote.

Yes, they hosted screenings for the 2000 select members voting for the nominations. The winners, on the other hand, are decided by the entire SAG-AFTRA active membership of 200,000.

My question is how do you know all these things.

Where did it say that Warner Bros. only sent digital screeners to SAG membership and what made you conclude that SAG senior members are reluctant to watch digital screeners.

You realize SAG-AFTRA is a massive organization, and some of its members do have Twitter accounts, right? Also, it's a common practice in the award watchers community to keep track of the screeners. You can easily find it by looking it up.

Ok thanks for clarifying but as professional actors and filmmakers, don't you think they would be capable of doing something as simple as playing a movie regardless of age? Like how hard can it be?

It's not about how I think the way it should be. It's about pragmatism. If 1% of the voters end up not watching the screener, that's 2000 votes that could've been won.
