Maybe he has a really good friend who is an obscure musician with troubled life and any attempt to represent that kind of artist on screen in his mind is a disservice or something... idk, but I think this time him disliking the song is more personal and doesn't really have much to do with the song itself or Gaga for that matter - that 'review' was pretty out of character for him... My thoughts exactly. He seemed to dislike the song on mere principle, which is kind of dumb and uncharacteristically, well, shallow.
Lord Temptation 11,209
He seems very inauthentic and a bit disturbed. I don’t for a second believe that he believes what he is saying. His arguments are so clinical. Like I wouldn’t want to cross him in a dark alley.

He is also very articulate and i do feel like i like him more than someone like ajay who only shouts YASSSSS but their target groups are different. so maybe that is why

He basically trashed Shallow for no reason and gave a stupid explanation on past ASIB films. This is just totally untrue though... he gave Joanne and ARTPOP great reviews and was very thorough in his reasoning. Even the Cure which he (rightfully) hated gor a fair review. You guys are just so biased. Simply because he didn't like 1 Gaga song you say he's an idiot even though he's clearly one of the most fair, open minded and well informed music critics out there. Even a fifth grader can spot the flaws in his logic. He just blurted out random sentences about ASIB and about the context behind the Shallow without any discussion over Shallow's lyrical content and production. He didn’t critique Shallow at all. He just crapped on about the movie and about Gaga’s career. I get the feeling he only listens to songs so he can argue about it and that his favourite “music” is his own voice. Also, I love how much he is hating Shallow getting nominated for so many awards. If his eyes rolled back any further he would be able to see out of his own bloated a s s

StrawberryBlond 14,819
I don't really know where his dislike of Gaga suddenly came from. Maybe he's just one of those people who automatically starts disliking artists as soon as they become popular. The fact that he bigs up Post Malone over Gaga shows him to be of very questionable taste. I'm usually the last to say that public's opinion should match critic's but when an album that gained such a mixed-negative reception as Post Malone's did, a critic's opinion of it being one of the best of the year is more than a bit dubious. 7 hours ago, Oscar Snatcher said: I know right. When you deem a song the worst track of it's release week then it gets 4 major Grammy nominations then that simply means that you shouldn't be in the music critic industry. It's just mind blowing how people aren't noticing how much of a FAD this guy is. I think that's a bit much. I review music as an amateur and many a time, I have vastly disagreed with professional critics and awards committees who seem to nominate success over talent. As I was saying above, Post Malone has really been nominated heavily at this year's Grammys despite his album only getting a 51 on Metacritic and for him to be largely disliked by many. I think that's far worse than one critic who disagrees with the herd. Simply put, the music industry is most likely awash with reviews that were the result of bribery from record labels. I've got a list of albums that I think could have been using paid-for reviews as the album is basically everything critics normally hate but it came out decently. If I think an artist can't sing, has limited lyrics, bad instrumentals and terrible messages in their work, they won't get a good review from me. So, to see critics praising, nominating and awarding clearly sub-par albums and giving better reviews to artists only when the public have made them a success makes me not want to pursue a professional critic career because it seems they're all a bunch of fake sheep. Of course I'm behind any nomination any of my faves get but I see that more a case of, the critics had some sense for once. Basically, I have very little actual respect for professional critics or think their words carry a lot of weight. Something must happen to you when you pursue the career professionally - it makes you stop being grounded in reality and think bad music is good and think pretentiousness is synonymous with good music. Part of the beauty of music is a difference of opinion, when different things work for different people. When all critics think the same, it's so boring and not really what music is about. 3 hours ago, CautiousLurker said: I actually kinda like the guy, and I do think he considered Gaga a serious musician, but I think there's something else to him disliking Shallow, for one because he didn't really say anything about the song itself - his criticism basically came down to 'oh, two extremely privileged people playing lower and upper middle class people? pass' - that has nothing to do with the song and is a weird sentiment in general... I agree, he really let his bias show there. When a critic will talk about anything other than the actual music, it's a foregone conclusion that they've got some bias to bear. I remember a lot of critics did that with ARTPOP, just bleating on about Gaga's past music and her wacky costumes and her persona and not much critique of the actual music. And if you don't have the critics and media behind you, you stand a very low chance of success. Most people have jumped off the Gaga hate bandwagon but some are still a bit behind the times and have yet to realise their prejudice.
