Don't forget that we already had Judas during the BTW era. The fundamental difference between the two is that Judas was a mediocre song with subjects that it wasn't equipped to handle while DWUW may be a great song, but it has a child predator on it. Judas didn't end her career because she was still well managed enough that the next move was to release a complete departure from Judas with TEOG so Judas can rot alone in peace and be forgotten. DWUW had not only a bigger controversy but her team was falling apart so DWUW nearly took everything with it to the bottom of the ocean and overshadowed the entire era.
