Y'all go for pages hating on Ariana, Cardi, Nicki, Miley, etc. I swear it wasn't this bad a short while ago. I can't believe some of you claim to be Gaga stans and then act like the brattiest, most unkind d*cks on the internet. OT: Congrats to everyone mentioned, it was a competitive year for music. Cardi is a transphobe that married and had a child with a bigot and paid men to assault women that her husband chose to cheat on her with, Nicki is dating a rapist and publicly supported a rapist and an admitted pedophile (while he was being charged), and Miley is a white culture vulture. I don't owe any of them respect and it's not misogynistic to criticize them or their work. Arguing that we should treat female artists like delicate china dolls that can't handle criticism is absolutely misogynistic, though. Ariana is lovely and a great singer. I love most of her music. Sweetner wasn't a great album and I don't think it should be included in this list. Most of the GGD users feel exactly the same way as I do. Some of the female artists listed in that ranking whose albums I do love: Beyonce (the album's great, though the fact that she forced me to endure work form her cheating husband was irritating), Kacey Musgraves (Golden Hour is incredible), Robyn (Honey is a masterpiece), Janelle Monáe (Dirty Computer is great), Mariah (Caution is seriously her best work in... two decades?), Mitski, etc. etc. I'd love to sing their praises if people were to make threads about them, but they don't have flashy personal lives like the artists you mentioned so they aren't brought up on here all that often. I normally like what you post (I think it was you that called that other user out for posting anti-immigrant propaganda on here earlier - if so, you were right), but it feels like you're trying to accuse the GGD userbase of misogyny because they're coming after your faves. Ziggy 11,888
Ok but anyone arguing that anything Ariana Grande has ever put out is superior to anything Janelle Monáe or Florence + The Machine has put out does not have taste im interested in indulging. Even in the pop category, Dirty Computer came in whereas I felt Sweetener was insanely bland and safe.

Of course, I don't know if this trend will be sustained, but it's troubling. Reveal hidden contents I'm going through finals at the moment, but when I have some free time I'm going to be compiling my thoughts on this in its own thread, sorry for derailing this one lol The idea that gay men, who I believe outnumber cis women on GGD, do not harbor misogyny is... problematic to say the least. I'm the farthest thing from a SJW, but the way I see gay men talk about and treat cis women (in real life and online) is often troubling. Sure, gay men may empathize with cis straight women, but just because you are a man that likes other men does not mean you aren't accountable for your casual sexism. Ariana does so much for women, and imo she doesn't get enough credit for it. Even before she became a megastar, she's been a badass advocate for women AND queen folk. The least we could do it not actively try to rain on her parade. Yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. That is a wonderful, beautiful feature of a free and open internet. But in a circumstance like this, how is it productive in any way, shape, or form to dump a steaming pile of negativity into to world? Cool, I get it, some people don't think she deserves this, but guess what, SHE GOT IT! We all (rightfully) hate when Madonna fans sh*t on Gaga and say that she doesn't deserve X or Y nomination. But it's also the genuinely held opinion of those people. The point in trying to make is that it is tacky, distasteful, toxic, and 'bad karma' (if you believe in that shiz) to diminish someone else's accomplishments -- especially when they seem like a cool and deserving person. Can you give one example of a song being nominated after the creation of this category (in 2011 or 2012 forgot when it was created). Joanne didn't chart in the US. StrawberryBlond 14,891
Only 5 out of 50 would even get into my top 20. I sometimes think this publication just takes the most talked about/prasied/commercially successful albums of the year to make their list, no actual genuine feeling behind it. This has been the worst year for music since I started reviewing in 2012 and its worse every year leading up to this. There's actually going to be albums less than 3/5 stars on my best of list this year, that's how bad it is (I used to import in 3/5's to the best of list, which was normally consisting of 20 albums rated 3.5/5 or more, now I'm importing in 2.5's - those were the days). I'm only hoping that this is a sign that things can only get better in 2019 and there a lot of good artists coming up. The point in trying to make is that it is tacky, distasteful, toxic, and 'bad karma' (if you believe in that shiz) to diminish someone else's accomplishments -- especially when they seem like a cool and deserving person. I'm a straight woman and I can completely get behind what you're saying. But I also think you're overexaggerating a bit. GGD has been notoriously unforgiving to male artists like Ed Sheeran, The Chainsmokers and Justin Timberlake. Because they made an ever so slight criticism of GGD, they were on our s**t list and it means their work's been tainted ever since with many not giving it a chance because of the historic perceived slighting towards Gaga. I by no means think they are harsh on women for no reason other than they're women. And again, as a woman and a feminist, I really dislike how women are perceived as precious little flowers who can't take criticism. We want equality and that means we get treated the same as men, And if men get trashed for releasing a bad album, women equally should too. As a feminist, I don't believe in treating women better because they're women, supporting women because they're women or praising women who don't deserve it. That's patronising to women and goes against the idea of feminism as equality. At the end of the day, this is just a forum, don't take it so seriously. And this is the only place where I can get out my my past time of music reviewing, so if I have a negative opinion, I don't like this idea of anyone trying to stifle it. These artists likely won't even see it. And even if they do, how does that effect their fame or fortune in any way? When you choose to become famous, you've put your head on the chopping block and you've asked to be judged. They shouldn't get into this business if they can't handle that. That's very nice and all and it stands, but everybody has a right to express their opinion especially if it's done in a tasteful way. Just because someone doesn't like someone's work doesn't mean their dicks. Look I dont agree with the list either. Sweetener certainly wasn't best album of the year it isn't even Ariana's best album so I can see why people are not so keen on it, it's a bland album. Nicki has been serving attitude ever since she announced Queen and its been distracting people from the actual music. Cardi is Cardi just like Nicki she's a polarizing figure and her music is not up to everybody's personal taste. So idk should we be walking on eggshells here and not express our opinions? Are we so sensitive to people's opinions or what happening? I'm the bitch that's fragile
