Miley: "I love pop, Younger Now wasn't for me"

People who are claiming the title is misleading, she spent the entirety of YN era talking about how true to herself it is, how it’s her roots, while at the same time discarding Bangerz. Fast forward to today, she says this, and here’s the exact quote:

”the last time I was here was with Younger Now, and that was very country influenced. I like pop music, music that can be danced to, music that can be enjoyed in the club, so that didn’t feel like home for me”

almost a year after saying this was “back to my roots”

literally what’s the damn difference between my title and her quote? One word. That’s it. And in actuality, that one word makes it even more interesting considering country music is her “home” :oprah:

Since she repeats herself in every interview it won't be hard to find, go watch c2c interviews and she'll be repeating how this is the **** and now she's happy and she found her sound and how tony is the second coming of jesus, past forward to joanne and she's saying this is who she truly is and this album is more personal than any other album bla bla, fast forward to ASIB and apparently she found her true self for like the 45345th time and who she was wasn't her true self but her own creation :vegas:

I watched almost every single interview she gave for A Star Is Born, nope she did not say anything that indicate what you claimed.

Yes I do remember her saying that she was happy with singing jazz and how she built a friendship with Tony Bennett, but I do not remember her shading her previous work or ARTPOP. In fact when she said she was 'happy', the interviewer asked her: "Weren't you?" or something along the lines of 'did your previous music not make you happy?' to which she answered 'it did' with an elaboration I had forgotten. I think she said that her manager left her and that caused her to be very upset, but how is that equivalent to saying 'I am so not proud of the music I made.'?

I'm sure you are smart enough to understand the difference between saying 'this (Joanne) is my most personal album ever' and 'my previous albums were garbage', right? In fact, let's not forget she brought back Sexxx Dreams and Venus for Coachella. Not every album is designed to be personal, The Fame Monster, Born This Way and ARTPOP were masterpieces but we wouldn't describe them as 'personal'. She also regularly celebrates the anniversary of her previous albums.

And you have just proven @Sugden right, he brought up the possibility of y'all misconstruing her words, and you did exactly that, to a very outrageous and incredible extent. I mean how hard was it to understand the different personas that are an international pop star and the little girl you grew up as? Both are valuable to her as an artist, they're just different.

Very proud of it that she performed it on her biggest performance ever (SB), we stan :diane: She literally forgot the existence of that album when it flopped and would constantly bash it during Joanne promo and say this is who I am, and she does the same now during ASIB saying no this is who I am. If you think otherwise you're delusional because there have been plenty of meltdowns on this site because of the contradicting things she's said throughout her career :vegas:

So everything that isn't featured at the Superbowl is something that she isn't proud of? Damn she must hate Alejandro, and You and I, and Marry the Night. Wait, that's right the Superbowl isn't a 2-hour concert. Do I really have to point that out to you? :air:It's really exhausting how I have to point out even the most trivial, obvious and minute details so that you could understand... common sense?

And it's funny how you keep making claims but are unable to produce actual concrete evidence via links or videos. All of the arguments I hold are presented above, and you brought nothing to counter-argue them except regurgitate your previous points, whose crucial flaws I have already pointed out - an incredible and outrageous misinterpretation, in fact a shocking lack of common sense and understanding towards plain simple words.

Like I said earlier, how hard was it to understand that one human-being can have different personas in a single life? In fact this is even more common in artists, who constantly explore different characters and personalities to be translated into music and art. Clearly, you don't know much about being a performer and an artist?

Of course the LMs are gonna bash her when Gaga had been saying this same thing ever since C2C and straight up saying she was a made up character for 6 years and this is who she is etc etc

We dragged/drag her for that though? :lana:

You laugh and move on when Gaga contradicts herself, because she’s just “changing her mind all the time” and “evolving” and “it’s her job to promote her current era leave her alone”. Miley does it and we have this thread.

Miley has been a lost child for a long time, this is not surprising. And she just said country isn’t her home, you can always go back to her roots and realise you don’t belong there anymore. Really, she’s just a messy girl with typical issues from someone who has been an artists since she’s a child.

Well read the comments under yours, you seem to be the only "forgetful" one here pretending Gaga hasn't contradicting or bashed her previous work before. I'm not gonna waste my time go through interview looking for exactly what she said, but most people know about that here, and had meltdown threads after meltdown threads, MULTIPLE times.

When Gaga does it she's an artists, mind you she's talking about her own ****ing self previously. When Miley does it, about her work (not herself) she's full of **** and whatnot, we love double standards don't we?

Well we have people like the good sis @Kitsch that pretend she never did such a thing :air:

Again, you seem to somehow manage to completely misunderstand and misinterpret my words, it's really not surprising that you would misinterpret Gaga as well.

From the onset of this discussion, I never in any way pretended she never said anything that she did. In fact, I pointed out whatever she did say, and whatever that she did not say, in black and white, making a factual statement of what actually happened and what did not. In fact, I did try to have a discussion with you by trying to as accurately as possible interpret every occasion of hers in which you purported that she 'bashed' her work, and you seem to have failed considerably in trying to establish your point. Because apart from regurgitating your arguments whose flaws have already been pointed out, you really brought nothing of substance to the discussion.

My arguments - She has never claimed to be ashamed of her old work, nor did she bash it - She said it in the Stephen Colbert interview, she celebrates the anniversary of her old albums, she said she was happy singing jazz with Tony but she also clarified that pop also made her happy and that her feeling upset had nothing to do with the music, she said Joanne was her most personal album but anyone with common sense knows that saying an album is personal does not mean the rest are garbage. In fact, I further stated that artists are inclined to take on different personas and characters throughout their career for the sake of their artistry, experimentation, and that she happened to take on a wild and outlandish one - Lady Gaga, and a more conservative and reserved one - Joanne.

What did you exactly bring to the table to dispute what you do not agree with? - I am pretending? I am forgetful? You're not wasting time to find interviews or links? Are these really the best you can do?

Well I'm not gonna waste my time watching 10+ minutes long interviews and read articles to prove to you something that so many people here know about, and once again, READ the other responses. and if you wanna still pretend she never said that then whatever, I couldn't care less :air:

What you do seem to agree with is that she did say "This is who I am and Gaga was a persona" So you drag miley for saying younger now doesn't represent her sound and she likes pop, which is something so basic if you compare it to Gaga pretending to be someone who she isn't for what, 6,7, 10 years? and then telling everyone surprise, that wasn't me, this is me :air:

Well if you are not making the effort to find out what Lady Gaga has said, do not claim to know what Lady Gaga has said.

I didn't really drag Miley, that's quite an overstatement. I did make a joke about how she's gonna say NBLAH is soon going to be 'not for her' at some point in the future, that I admit, but I never intended for it to be malicious. If that offends you, I apologise. But really I'm not trying to put down Miley, I did want to defend Gaga, because her words were so preposterously twisted.

During Cheek to Cheek she said that she is happy again because Tony made her feel comfortable. ARTPOP was a hard time for her, not because of the music but because of all the things that went wrong at that time.

She said Joanne was her most personal work because of obvious reasons. She talked openly about family and friends, more than she did before. But during the JWT she said that is debatable if Joanne is her most personal album. Every album is personal in it’s own way.
