Likewise with removing the home button. In theory, yes. In practice, not really. They still have openings for the USB-C port and buttons for volume and lock. My 2009 Sony camera can go 10 meters underwater and is full of potential water entrances while still being super thin. The only reason I see for removing the headphone jack is just...to "be cool and with the trends"? I'm not sure really, since they don't use the extra hardware space for anything relevant, and add the annoyance of carrying around a dongle. Good thing is: Samsung has lots of updated smartphone options unlike Apple, so you can still choose one with a headphone jack if you like.
