welp....

That closed august 18th and no cher wasnt there!

Broadway’s success for years has been powered by soaring ticket prices, but now attendance is booming, too.

This past season, attendance was up 9.5 percent. And overall grosses rose even faster — up 10.3 percent, leading to the sixth record-breaking year in a row.

In all, 14,768,254 patrons saw Broadway shows last season, for a total box office gross of $1.8 billion. Both totals — measured between May 28, 2018 and May 26, 2019 — are records.

There were 72 Broadway shows to choose from over the course of the season — some long-running and some quite short-lived — including 38 musicals, 29 plays and five special events (most notably “Springsteen on Broadway,” which brought in $50 million during the season).

yeah but at what cost? This current season, for musicals at least, they were mostly based on existing IPs or singers. There isn't original content anymore and it doesn't look like next year it's going to be much better.

Hadestown, Mockingbird and Oklahoma were all great but I miss having musicals NOT based on movies. So yeah, attendance and ticket sales might be booming but it's becoming kind of a mess

who will love me when the night is over
