How many collabs is too many on an album?

This question is more about from one specific (vocal) artist. This is somewhat Gaga related since she’s been known to work on multiple songs with one collaborator for an album (T.I., Kendrick Lamar, AB), but she’s never actually featured an artist more than once on a solo album (however Lukas Nelson did include her twice on his album with POTR). How many collabs from one artist is too much? Obviously one is good, but is two ok? Three? :messga: For me I think two is ok, but if it’s anymore it’s kind of weird. Like just make a collab EP? :wtfga:

Well a collab album like ASIB or C2C is different, but anything over 1 I feel is just weird...

Is this just about featured artists ? I feel like 11 writers for a single song is too much but that's just me.

Grateful by DJ Khaled....

The album features guest appearances from a wide array of artists including Future, Travis Scott, Rick Ross, Migos, Chance the Rapper, Nicki Minaj, Kodak Black, Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, Drake, Rihanna, Sizzla, Mavado, Nas, Calvin Harris, and Betty Wright, among others.

So anything close to this...

DJ Khaled is a producer though. He doesn’t sing so he got singers to be on his songs. It’s like the Nile Rodgers album.

Him saying his name is not really “vocals”, so yeah. :messga: Plenty of producers have singers on their albums (Zedd had Selena, Logic, Troye, etc. on True Colors) so it’s not really weird. It helps their music become popular. Anyway, what your talking about has nothing to do with OP, so yeah. :vegas:

IDK but I hope Lukas Nelson invites Gaga for more collabs.

I bust my Hot Italian Sausage every night to Find Yourself.

Well you brought it up, since my first post said that Grateful had too many collabs, so anything close to that album is too many. You brought up that post, so yea :ohwell::ohwell::ohwell::ohwell::ohwell::ohwell::ohwell::ohwell::ohwell::ohwell:

Same. And this time a proper collab to where she gets her name ft. In the song. I always look it up and type Gaga Lukas in Apple Music and never get anything. :laughga:

With Gaga, I often find it overwhelming if there are more than two songs with features on them. I also think Gaga works well with only one artist per feature, JND would have been much more cohesive and a better song overall had it only had one rapper. Also all the rappers were out of date :messga: It could have been so much better with someone like J. Cole or A$AP Rocky imo.

In my opinion, often the best way to include features without overwhelming the album is to do what Lorde did with Melodrama. No features on the album itself (which works for her, having one feature works for Gaga though imo) but having remixes such as Supercut with a cool artist such as Run The Jewels or have a mega remix with heaps of stars such as Homemade Dynamite with SZA, Post Malone and Khalid.

Although it really does depend on the artist/album. I found Lust For Life incredibly cohesive and I thought the features from Stevie, The Weeknd, Sean Ono Lennon and A$AP Rocky's feature on Groupie Love were very good and all made the album better. I would have cut out Rocky and Carti from Summer Bummer though.

Just like food, it's all in moderation :vegas:
