More artistic? ARTPOP vs Dead Petz

Which ground braking, experimental album in your honest opinion is more artistic? Lady Gaga's ARTPOP or Miley Cyrus's Dead Petz?

I love ARTPOP and it's my favorite Gaga album and overall album ever. But I've been lately hooked up to Miley's DP which imo is something that ARTPOP tried to be. I don't know how to explain it, I feel as if Miley's version is more cohesive & artistic. Sure, it has combined urban rap (or something) with weird synth and sounds which gives the whole album this eerie and sometimes even cheap vibe. As I listen to the album I can feel many emotions: anxiety, sadness, happiness etc. Sure ARTPOP also has those raw emotions connected to it, but most of the time you find the album being just louzy edm songs that tried to be something they couldn't be.

What are your thoughts? Did Dead Petz and Miley succeed something that Gaga tried to achieve?

Spoiler

i feel as if this whole thread makes no sense at all but i'm very interested to see what others think

ARTPOP best Gaga album, best album of all time

it tried and was meant to give the emotions Dead Petz gives for sure though, especially on tracks like Aura, MJH or Dope

I don’t think ARTPOP is supposed to be a cohesive collection of work, so I suppose Miley wins at that? Also artistically, I feel Miley’s is much more... random and free I should say. ARTPOP does sound like it’s holding a lot back (probably due to her label making her change things and a general change of thought after her hip break), so I guess Miley’s is also more artistically free. But overall I prefer ARTPOP.

I don’t really agree with this because I remember Gaga talking about how she wanted fans to listen to the album from Aura to Applause so the album is a whole experience and every song flowed into one another, so I don’t see how that’s not cohesive... There are so many details that make ARTPOP very cohesive.

There are some great songs on DP (Karen Dont Be Sad and I Get So Scared are unappreciated) but it also has a lot of songs that seem more weird for the sake of being weird. It gets a little grating.

ARTPOP is something I can listen to and not feel the need to cringe every other song. It's more fun. So ARTPOP>>>>MCDP for me. It's just better put together imo.

DP is indeed more consistent and cohesive but ARTPOP has more interesting instrumentation and lyrics.

Songs like Aura, Venus & ARTPOP are songs only Gaga could pull off. They are different. Plus ARTPOP’s Astrology/ Mythology theme in songs like Aura and Venus is really creative, unique & interesting.

Listening to DP is quite the journey tbh, but I prefer ARTPOP.

ARTPOP is the superior album by far. Dead Petz is non-sensetical and naive in an uncontrolled way when ARTPOP still has a form of structure to it. ARTPOP songs are better produced, and more diverse. Dead Petz lyrics are just random details from Miley's life and half of them are about drugs, it just looks cringy and try-hard. :saladga: and most of the tracks are "demo" quality at best. Sorry, that album is a mess (ARTPOP is a mess too but at least a well done one).

I’ll say Dead Petz because it was purely a passion project and it has to be one of the most “what I’m feeling right now” kind of record a major artist has released in a long time. I like ARTPOP much more but we can’t forget that it was also designed to sell and Interscope had some say in it too whereas Miley released DP outside her label and made it available for free.

I prefer ARTPOP but I think Dead Petz is more "artistic" in the sense that Miley really pushed the envelope where ARTPOP was held back.

ARTPOP had the potential to be something incredible but all of the songs sound like they're holding back apart from DWUW, MJH and Applause.

When I say cohesive... I more so mean the tracks don’t sound similar. There is a very large difference between songs like Swine, Dope, Gypsy, Do What U Want, and ARTPOP. Gaga has also basically said she and her team didn’t care about if the songs all had the same sound/genre, which is why there’s a random RnB song in the middle of the “EDM” album. :laughga: So while the tracks may be placed strategically, like Dope being after MJH, the album is basically a bunch of random puzzle pieces from different artworks shoved together. Which is the whole theme of ARTPOP... it could mean anything. Which is very different from her other albums as they have a very unified theme and concept... persona I should say.

I honestly see Gaga’s previous work as more artistic than ARTPOP. IDK. It’s like with ARTPOP she tried to be artistic and it was supposed to be artistic but it was not executed as well. With “TF”, “TFM” and “BTW” it went naturally and we all just got what she was going for artistically, with “AP” it seems like she was always talking about being artistic and stuff but it never translated well as real art. It’s just my opinion tho..

Damn, some great argumented posts in here :queenga: I'm surprised/impressed lol :vegas:

I think ARTPOP was more artistic. It had a storyline and a vision that felt like it could be analyzed meaningfully. Dead Petz was pretty hollow tbh. Just an attempt to make a stereotypical weird hippie album. It didn't come together and it won't survive.
