I don't understand. Her label wasn't that big, so she couldn't collaborate with some artists?

I thought they were free to collaborate with whoever they wanted. :duck:

on the contrary, it was known for a long time he would leave them, almost for a fact. If I'm not wrong, they still have the right to release a greatest hits album with the songs in her catalog

That is pointless unless it has brand new songs. Nowadays, everyone can easily do a greatest hits album by creating a playlist.

As as huge Taylor fan this greatly worries me the relationship between Taylor and BMR is probably the best in the industry right now (or should I now say used to be). Her label pushes her and stands by her like no other label I've seen tbh. Till now she's never had one flop era, her albums sell at numbers that seem impossible in the streaming age. She gets amazing videos and her eras are will always near perfect, a huge part of that is her label. I honestly wonder why and why now.

"Eat your salad"

"Dad, I'm an adult. No."

"Eat. Your. Salad."

"Fine. But I'm leaving the label."

"Sure honey, whatever you think."

I think that's how it went down.

It is possible cos now her label is under parent company that is UMG. Which make legality easier for artists to work with each other so long they are signed to sister companies as opposed to working with someone from different parent company.

When an artist lends a guest verse to an artist that is on a different label, lawyers representing both the artist and the label negotiate and draft up a one to two page contract stating the terms in which the song can be used and how residuals and publishing are divided. Also, the label receives a credit in the liner notes of an album. And the label get to keep the master recordings too.

But not every artists can do collab with others from different label, only those who have a sideman clause provision written into their contract can do that.
