Bradley 59,323
The whole point of performing on shows like SNL, Ellen and Jimmy Fallon is to promote your song. The thing is Shallow is part of a story, part of the movie's narrative, it's not a song like Til It Happens to You, which Gaga wrote for The Hunting Ground. Shallow is written with the intention that it reflects Jackson and Ally's state at that point of time in the movie, and is 'not' sung by the artist behind the song (Lady Gaga) but the character in the movie (Ally and Jackson). It's like saying 'Buy my new single - Shallow on iTunes right now!' except you're doing it via actions. It's just inappropriate. Performing at the Oscars is a whole other thing because Oscars are a celebration of movies, it's not meant to promote music.

Also Shallow can be nominated but she can perform INLA, or she can do Shallow by herself like n the tour scene... Bradley made it pretty clear that he doesn’t want to perform any if the songs from the movie - ever again.. EDIT: Apparently he changed his mind today in a interview....... I have pretty much watched 90 A Star Is Born interviews at this point but I don't remember him saying that? I think there were instances where the interviewers asked him if he would make music in the future, or release an album, and he said no. But did he really say that he wasn't going to sing music from the movie ever again? Cause I don't remember him saying that.

Yes I can’t remember which interviews exactly BUT he explicitly said when asked about performing those songs again something like “I think I’m done with singing and performing, this movie is enough” in two interviews and then again when someone said that he really has talent and that he should sing more often he said something like “Nah man you won’t hear me sing again”.. Who decided what's better musically, and based on what arguments? IWLNA is literally a copy (a good one for sure) of I Will Always Love you and Without You. Shallow is unique and doesn't sound similar to anything that is/was on the radio or comes from a movie soundtrack. Also, yeah, people already told you that Bradley made it pretty clear that he already has a performance lined up in his mind Uh, both INLA and Shallow are great songs. Also the Shallow chorus is basically the Judas chorus... Check out iTunes data & graphs at CHARTPOP.live
Ziggy 12,062
it also doesn't *need* promo because it's in the focal point of a hugely successful movie so it isn't necessary

Shallow is THE song of the movie, but like, I feel like an Oscar performance would be kinda........ crigney (I love the song but I just don't know about performing it at the Oscars). INLA on the other hand was made specifically for an award show performance, but at the same time, it's not nearly as recognized as Shallow. Idk only time will tell, we'll just have to trust the good sis gaga to cum thru with an amazing performance, whether it be Million Reasons or Million Reasons (ASIB remix feat. Bradley Cooper) Spoiler ✨oh the lights dim while we’re dancing yeah the floor is shaking in this disco heaven✨

With a few notes differently, it's very similar in the direction. "I'm just a holy fool." <-> "I'm off the deep end." (if you ignore the last note of "fool") "Oh baby, it's so cruel." <-> "Watch as I dive in." "But I'm still in love with Judas" <-> "I'll never meet" "baby" <-> "the ground" It's sort of like how Bad Romance and Judas choruses are similar (but Shallow is otherwise very different whereas BR and Judas sound like twins with different production).
