Stay and Happy Now are both good songs while The Middle is forgettable and mediocre and is starting to grate on my nerves after nearly a year of that song

Why would he make good songs when his worst hit (The Middle) is also by far his biggest? I understand that he now only makes mediocre music because his next song (Happy Now) bombed all around the world. We have to wait until his next single if he is still capable of great songs like Clarity.
