He said “For instance, no one says n— anymore,” which is really false so like he said the N word and said a false claim.. like honey, a few weeks ago a man screamed the N word to a black woman in Dunkin Donuts :saladga:

Exactly this.

I still don't understand why saying the word "*****" out of the racial context is SUCH a problem. Seriously, I have never in my life seen this kind of taboo. And I feel like this is basically a US issue, because I've heard the word ***** and there was never such a problem. Of course you shouldn't be racist and call someone "*****", but it's not even about the word... It's about racism. To say "n-word" everytime the word ***** is referred to is too much, as if we're children who can't say the f-word. Being decent human beings is not about not using the word *****, it's about not being racist. And people don't understand the difference and that is why there will always be prejudice.

It IS a US thing and if you don’t understand the history, then you won’t understand why it’s a big deal.

It’s always been a white thing to pretend like it doesn’t matter, but it does for exactly that reason.

PREACH... Hiding this word is only making it bigger... And all the smash song in US right now are using this word, it's ridiculous, and hypocrite...

I love US but it appears to be a very nevrotic country on this subject...

Unpopular opinion but I think it's ok to say the n-word depending on the context. If you're using the word against black people though, that's a whole different story.

It’s .... SO easy... to just avoid saying... a SLUR.

WHY do people feel the need to try and give it a pass?

Pretend it doesn't matter? Hiding the word like everyone's a baby is ridiculous. You are not taking racism seriously because you hide the true conflicts behind these fights over a word used in a whole different context.

A white thing? It's such a black thing to pretend white people are still stuck in the past and would never use the word ***** in any other context rather than the racist one...

Did he call someone that word? Did he use that word to insult someone? Did he use that word as a joke? Did he ever insinuate that the word can be used as such?

No?

The fact that he said it while promoting a movie about race relations and his costar Mahershala Ali was right next to him is so gross

He’s not racist for this incident but my God how tonedeaf. Glad he apologised though.

He was using the word simply to state that people have been using it historically as a racist term, while promoting a movie about racism and people are bothered by this?

Is he supposed to say “n word” when doing this? Is he 12?

Yes

I think people should STOP saying it all together, because it all gets to confusing. Rap is everywhere now and it’s in every song. It’s not an “empowering” word. He didn’t use it maliciously. No one should be saying it period.
