Progressive organizations have announced coordinated protests to take place in cities and communities nationwide on Thurdsay, November 8th at 5 PM (local time) in the wake of President Donald Trump's firing of Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Right after Trump forced Sessions to resign, the White House announced that Matthew Whitaker—a DOJ official who has shown open hostility to the probe by Special Counsel Robert Mueller—would now serve as acting AG and be put in charge of the ongoing investigation. "Trump just put someone who has openly trashed Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation in charge of it," Robert Weissman, president of Public Citizen, one of the advocacy groups behind the rapid-response demonstrations, explained in an emergency email Wednesday evening. "Trump thought that by waiting until after the polls closed on Election Day, our voices would be silent. So he fired him because he rightly recused himself to put someone who openly slandered mueller. Just one hour of time but we can protest longer if need be. If you take part, be civil! If yelled at or dismayed by other groups, stand quietly. Dont let them get you going because that's what they want. It is within our rights to peaceful protest and we will do just that. Edit...they are doing two protests in our area so those who cant attend the afternoon can attend the morning which I thought was super cool. Right. This is my fear. Everything is calculated and timed for a reason with them and like I said earlier, this is some SEE THRU timing. I mean really. Like we cant see something has to be up. Could be used in the obstruction case. This is all to try to stop or limit the scope of the Mueller investigation. This has been expected for months. I have known he was gonna fire Sessions soon after the election. I didn’t expect it the day after which I think is awesome but like at least a week. Sessions did nothing as AG. We need an ethical attorney general who also believes in the president. Sessions hated Trump and so did Rosenstein.
