I hate the people who only speak up about their specific concern that's close to their heart when other people talk about concerns that are close to theirs. Not to say that the stars of this film don't give a f*ck about white nationalism, but the themes they explored were drug addiction, alcohol addiction, mental health, co-dependency on difficult partners, how the music business treats women, family life etc. There are so many issues already touched upon and some people are always willing to just blindly ignore that. It's like when people have criticised Gaga before for not being outspoken enough on issues affecting black people (which is something we all know is completely factually incorrect) because Beyonce speaks up about it a lot. They however, again, fail to acknowledge how outspoken she has been for LGBT rights which Beyonce is relatively quiet on in comparison. You're never going to please everybody, especially not these fake 'woke' fools that write complete articles with no evidence or information to back up their points.

Sooo... every movie portraying white lead characters has to address the question of race, otherwise it's gonna be deemed tone-deaf? What the motherflipping ****. :saladga:

I actually loved the portrayal of Jackson, a country musician, who is close friends with a black man, and race is never brought up as an issue. They are simply united in their humanity. When they're all eating together at the family's house I thought it was  a beautiful portrayal of harmony. It actually warmed my heart.

Not to mention how Jackson is so comfortable with the drag queens in the film. He's an open, accepting character.

I think people who are closed minded (and maybe also country music fans) can relate to Jack and therefore when they see him be accepting of POC and LGBT it might even open their hearts a little. I know that's real optimistic, but the film itself is optimistic in this sense.

Yea the film didn't address racism, instead it showed us an example of an understanding, accepting dynamic. It gave us an example to follow. It normalizes peace and harmony.

Black Panther didn't represent white people and was therefore anti-white. It's also a homophobic movie.

See how stupid that stuff is?

Exactly, the fact that those elements were seamlessly incorporated within the story, without being main plot points, was really refreshing. And that article in the OP is ridiculously missing the whole point.

Does anybody remember that thread a couple of weeks ago where somebody listed the obscure things that critics will pick beef with from the film?

Well since then I've noticed the subject of the lack of female roles come up and now there's this about white supremacy.

I find it ironic that the thread was closed and he was right. :laughga:

Haters will find a way to criticise anything.

Crying racism in a movie with decent, non-racist and inoffensive white characters who so happen to be the main characters with black side characters being portrayed in a positive light?  GENIUS

This is my problem with forced diversity, it feels forced just for the sake of diversity.

I see it in many movies and tv shows now..

In Grey's Anatomy they brought many diverse actors/characters but started to kick them out one by one.. and who are left? the white.. but hey! at least they kept the Muslim girl to run after a dog and you never saw her back since then :awkney:

I haven't yet seen the new season so no spoilers please but there's Dr Webber, his wife, Maggie, Miranda Bailey and Ben and then there's the DeLuca's .

I respect your opinion but please don't complain about Grey's please because they have always had a diverse cast.

But I do agree that more races such as Asian and Indian need to be given more roles. (I miss Sandra Oh so much).
