Hi all!

I'm in a class called "Race and Gender in Country Music" and we have to write an academic paper. I want to write about pop stars who have taken to country music for some part of their careers, how they presented the style and how it was received by country music fans. Obviously, I want the focus to be about Lady Gaga, Joanne and ASIB. I know that other stars before her, like Madonna, also have country music. I want to know... what do YOU know about this topic? Do you have any recommendations for academic sources I can use to construct my paper?

Thanks in advance if you can help! :rockstar:

Perhaps they're not pop stars, but you must include Dixie Chicks protesting George W. Bush.

i would definitly see it as a partly opposite of the heavy elektro edm and dubstep. and i think that was a main factor for gaga to go in the totally different direction....

Quite a difficult subject, as for me. I love writing, but writing about things I know. If I was asked to write a text about a subject that I don’t like, I would order it somewhere. Why not? You just should found a resource that you can trust, that is all. For example, I know that essaypro is reliable and professional. All my problems with texts could be solved with the resource. I know that they can write everything on time.

You are such a bad adviser

Professor Mathieu Deflem teaches a sociology course on Gaga with dozens of academic articles on her music. Gaga's country turn is relatively recent and I can't imagine there's a lot of coverage, especially in academia, but Lady Gaga – The Scream of a Rock Star seems promising if you're writing about how Gaga embodies certain aspects of whatever genre she's interested in and yet defies genre-based expectations.

I would personally discuss how and why pop artists (including Gaga and Bradley) use country, country-rock and americana music/aesthetics as a proxy for authenticity.
