So I was wasting my time on wikipedia looking up oscar nominees from past years to see how much money they made :interestinga:

So I always assumed that A Star is Born would outgross Lala Land for some reason don't ask me why I guess I was delulu because it made $151.1 million in the United States and Canada and $295 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $446.1 million. This number really suprised me. I am only comparing those two movies because they are both musicals about the entertainment industry

It appears that  ASIB does not have the same success that Lala Land made worldwide...

Thoughts ??

Mister Gaga

It already did in the US. I don't think it will on a WW scale, but it will be close, around 400M, which is more than fine

I honestly hope so.

I may be in the minority, but I personally disliked La La Land with a passion. MovieBitches gave it a review that I agree with:

I just really did not expect Lala Land to be so successfull overseas :air:

If ASIB got released during awards season it would have passed it for sure will all the promo

i agree, La La Land became a sensation all around the world, because it had not only the hype, it had 14 oscar nominations, the most nominated movie of all time, along with Titanic. I mean, that headline alone created an enormous buzz...

ASIB will come close tho, it all depends on how well the movie performs in Japan, and a yet-to-be-approved release in China. But it shows how strong ASIB is performing, making the same $ that La La Land despite not playing in awards season (it has the oscars hype tho)

Why do members feel the urge to compare one movie to another when one already has had its full run while the other is yet to be released in alot of countries in the months to come :saladga:

Like compare the ****ing two movies when both are comparable enough (by that i mean when asib is done in theaters)

Girl you really have no idea what you’re talking about, just because they’re musicals doesn’t mean they’re anything alike. ASIB is rated R, it’s doing phenomenal numbers and will continue to gain during awards season.

La La Land has a more universal appeal, and is quaint. Compared to the somehow gritty ASIB. Also I think ASIB is not that relatable to some markets.

can't speak for other regions, but at least in asia, la la land had more appeal and hype around it as compared to ASIB. some cinemas in my country have already stopped screening ASIB due to lack of audience interest, sadly :(

They’re asking for our opinions on whether it will make more money. That means, they can compare them both NOW, as a sort of prediction. It’s a friendly debate. :)
