Slovakialop 2,258
1 minute ago, PerfectGUY said: this If ARUTW is released as a single NOW it will just ruin BOTH Shallow and ARUTW Shallow will be cut out, and ARUTW won't have time to grow because of the christmas freeze Interscope should keep pushing Shallow til January or February. It's a perfect Fall/Winter single, and sounds like a pure smash. Despite what some say it has climbed up radio pretty solidly and will keep doing so. ARUTW will be perfect for March and Spring It don't make sense releasing ARUTW in spring becouse the song is rising NOW on streaming platforms, by March the song will be dead. In my opinion the should keep pushing Shallow on the radios and on streaming services, and also keep pushing ARUTW on streaming services and in December send it to Europeans radios and on January to US radios. On March they should release Is That Alright as a WW single with a big push on streaming services and radio. ITA is the perfect and only option since it's the only song (among the ones with potential) that hasn't been promoted in any way (it's tecnically not even on the film) so in fact it would be a quite unknown song for the GP. Plus they have a never-seen-before performance of the song in the film that could be used as a video.
La Rosalia 9,906
I’ve been lurking/posting here since the BTW and I was doubtful about posting this but I’ll do cause I’m tired of this non sense paranoia attacks that some of you get. [spoiler] 1. The labels do have “negotiations” with the digital platforms, they are responsible of pitching songs to certain playlists such as Today’s Top Hits on Spotify or other editorial spaces in Apple Music, Deeser, etc . This is something only the labels can do, in the case of the U.S., I’m not sure if the small labels such as interscope, capitol, etc do it, or if it’s something Universal music, as a whole does. If it were the case that the pitches were done by the main label, not only does Gaga have to “compete” with artists from Interscope for pitching and or editorial spaces , but with the whole universal rooster that releases music every week. Besides “competing” in the internal pitching process, the digital platforms may find something else more attractive than what Universal or whatever label decided to pitch. So, in times like this, competition is crazy huge. What Interscope/Universal did of pitching and managing to get 3 songs off the album on Today’s Top Hits is a huge accomplishment. 2. Bobby, or Gaga’s management, does not have ANY control over this. The record label manages and distributes the music, so y’all should really stop with this “Bobby should have done this”, “Bobby should have send checks” blah blah blah. Besides, you can’t pay for any editorial space (besides some specific banners, but not playlisting spaces) inside the platforms. However, the digital platform May ask for specific communication from the artist, such as posting the first link to listen the song that takes the listener to that digital platform, posting stuff such as Gaga did was “watch the vertical video on Spotify”, etc. These platforms in the end are nothing but “stores” where people consume music and of course they have to compete with one another, they may search the best opportunities to promote themselves and of course for their “jewels of the crown” aka their biggest playlists, most of the times they are super selective. In my humble opinion, Gaga is not very engaged with the digital platforms. She could be making her own playlists, posting more specific stuff about the platforms, participating in editorial stuff such as choosing her favorite songs to celebrate pride, etc. There are many possibilities of what an artist can do, and she barely does anything. So don’t be surprised if more spaces are given to, let’s say Dua Lipa, because she is more active in these environment. 3. “ Interscope should have kept the song three months in the first position of the Today’s Top Hits playlist!!!” . Lol they don’t have control ever this, the digital platforms decide how to manage their spots. If the song is being taken down some spots it’s either because Shallow is not doing good with some specific metrics that I don’t feel comfortable sharing here or because the quantity of new releases they are getting is way too big, and they have faith in them becoming big and thus, they put it the first spots. They can’t keep the same songs on top. You may say “but she’s number 5 on the WW daily chart” which is a valid argument, but maybe she is not doing that well in the countries that cast consume this playlist the most. 4. Editorial spaces can make a song, they have a bigger influence on what people listen to that traditional promotion. We saw that during the Joanne era. Nothing but the super bowl was capable of pushing Million Reasons on the digital platforms and god knows our girl performed that song everywhere. This is a new market, big exposure comes from inside the platforms. Why do I say this? Because some of y’all are saying that ARUTW should be a single, but if the song is just barely surviving around the global top 50 despite being shown in a huge ass movie and getting a 22 position on TTH, then the users do not have a good engagement with the song and that won’t change because of “radio”, “promo”, etc. Artist such as Ariana grande, drake, etc that have lived most of their career in the audio streaming platforms understand this, that’s why it’s become less and less popular to go out and promote. That only effects pure sale and the effect is barely sustainable for more than a week. It pays off more on the long run to be active in this platforms than to burn yourself doing promo. 5. This is not my area of expertise lol but I think it’s logical... why should interscope push and push for radio support when the song is already doing good? Why should they promote it the traditional way when the platforms AND the huge as movie has done this? Radio is nothing but a marketing tool and way of communicating that the song is out, that’s it. Sadly, Billboard has this old as **** and dated tradition of counting radio for their charts but from a financial or even strategical point of view, sometimes it doesn’t make sense to put all the effort on communicating through radio when there are things such as big as a movie and getting the best editorial spaces everywhere that have a greater impact. Interscope is getting their coins, whether they promote the song or not in radio. This is a revenue business and, as every other business, the optimization of resources should be taken into account. I’d rather have her team working on getting these outstanding editorial placements in Spotify/Apple Music than taking Gaga to every damn radio station for interviews or concentrating the Interscope team on working on this field when the most important job has already been done. I don’t know, these are my two cents on this matter. [/spoiler| Sorry if there are any spelling mistakes, I just woke up and decided to share this, as I keep seeing similar complaints everyday, when in the end of the day Interscope/Universal has done an amazing job with this soundtrack. I think that at this moment they should release the second single based on how things work in UK and Australia. Lets not just wait for US when we can smash the world.
