WHO: 93% of children breathe toxic air

Around 93% of the world's children under 15 years of age breathe air that is so polluted it puts their health and development at serious risk, accounting for 1.8 billion children, according to a report published by the World Health Organization ahead of its first global conference on air pollution and health in Geneva.

In 2016, 600,000 children were estimated to have died from acute lower respiratory infections caused by polluted air. 

Air pollution is one of the leading threats to health in children under 5, accounting for almost one in 10 deaths among this age group, the report reveals.

I'm not surprised lol. Also lately there was some big medias reporting a study from scientists saying we have 12 years to drastically change the ways we behave with pollution & global warming before it's too late and I don't see anyone taking measures lol. Poor planet, poor living beings

Measures are being taken it's just that maybe it's not fast enough. A few examples

 

- Starting in 2020 international law kicks in that cargo boats will have maximum sulfur emissions lowered to one-fifth of what it is now, retrofitting of engines and scrubbers have began. Sulfur is one of the biggest culrpits of acid rain

 

- Many Nations are heavily pushing for electric cars with rebates some even putting a date where gas engines will be banned from roads

 

- Most of the developed world is building mostly renewable energy even China a developing Country is spending a fortune on Solar, Wind and Natural Gas to shut down as many Coal Plants as possible to deal with their pollution issue, they too are pushing for electric cars

 

There's a lot being done actually. It's just that the transition isn't as fast as we'd like sometimes. Also some Countries are also not doing their part like India and much of the developing world. The US lately under Trump has also been a concern and it's been mostly up to individual States to do something about climate change
