did she put out the cure with no real promotion to test if it would sell itself for a possible albumera without actual promotion?

I don't think so :oprah:ย . From my perspective it seemed there was no promo or mv simply bc she had no time. There was a world tour to prepare for and 5F2 was just months away (to promote).

Also, if we can believe what DJWS said (and I'm sure we can) TC was just a fun project they wanted to release. Maybe they didn't even attempt to promote it and may even been surprised when it smashed the charts (even if it was just a short amount of time) :lana:ย .

Despite what the producer or even Gaga says, I honestly canโ€™t imagine it wasnโ€™t intended for ASIB. The lyrics fit her situation with Jackson perfectly, itโ€™s catchy, mainstream pop sung in that softer tone she used for the OSTโ€™s pop songs,ย and it seems like a natural extension of Heal Me. Like, theyย both โ€œsavedโ€ each other, in a sense.

Spoiler

At least temporarily.

She's been ambiguous (read: lied) about stuff like this forever (remember the whole Applause thing smh, one minute it was "my manager put this song on the album" and "because we have to perform it", the other she and DJWS were praising it to heaven) so I don't think we'll ever know for sure.

But my guess is that, yes, it was a test. Not even just for ASIB (can we release the pop songs as singles and push a new sound for her?) but also in general: can a song like this become the next Gaga hit? Do people respond to these vocals, and this instrumental? Can we bank on it? If it flopped (and it didn't, I still hear that on the radio quite a few times to my own surprise) they could just put their hands up and say "no biggie" since, like you said, it didn't really feel like a single.

But she did promote it though :chica: She seriously tried to make it happen by performing it at Coachella. I mean, the way she announced it too: "I've been trying to keep it a secret for so long. I've been in the studio and I'd like to debut a brand new song".

It was sold instantly after her show, and the lyric video was up a week later, she chose it as the second to last song on her tour, and performed it at the AMA's so I don't believe there was no time put into it. If that was true, everything would've stopped after Coachella, and she might not even have performed it on tour at all, definitely not as the finale.

They had to keep the momentum somehow and TC was the good song to do it with - a surprise release during Coachella.

All the rest is just speculations and imagination of the fans.. they may read millions of time that it was not part of ASIB recording but they will still be sure that it is because they have "evidences" and it "sounds so ASIB" which honestly, it just sounds like every tropical house song of that year and nothing like any song of ASIB.. yeah I know there's Heal Me.. it's more likely that Heal Me inspired them to do TC and write about this subject...

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Did you read the second part of it? :poot:ย

:trollga:ย  So maybe (as in "I don't know if it really was that way" :trollga:ย ) they saw how successful it was so they geared up the promo for it :lana:ย

Yes... does that change anything? :messga: If it was just a fun project she wouldn't have announced it that way on Coachella, definitely wouldn't have tried to link that performance to a sudden surprise release, and she wouldn't have chosen it as a performance song at the AMA's because by then, the song really wasn't doing so well :unicorn:

A bit at least. I'm just saying all the promo such as being part of the tour setlist and the AMAs performance rely on the fact that TC performed way better than they may have expected it :awkney:ย .

Spoiler

Again, this is all speculation and is just that what I'm assuming what happened :stalkga:ย . It could've been completely different :lana:ย  :kara:ย

For those who think she didn't have the time to shoot a music video, know that shooting one would have taken 1 or 2 days only, she clearly had the time to do it. I think it was intentional not to do so. She probably wanted to know if the media would react in a bad way if she released a pop song that they only found decent/nice. Seeing that it did pretty good without promo and that the media was still by her side, she probably decided to go pop for her next record, even though it might be very different for The Cure

It was great test for Spotify at least! To check if she can have great streams which she did. And they were able to convince a lot of pop radio too without doing any of the Perfect Illusion era radio interview mess
