Does Gaga's image in the world mentally affects some of us?

Hello everyone!

I read this forum everyday and I couldn't help myself but think about how the **** some of us are so affected by what GP thinks about Gaga.

THIS IS A SERIOUS DISCUSSION!

Technically speaking, our brain craves for other people to confirm our opinions. But this story gone too far, in my humble opinion.

I myself am affected by my non-monsters friends opinion about Gaga and I always take critics so personally that I started to think being a little monster is a religion.

I read this forum and I see a lot of threads about what should Gaga do next to please the GP, threads about the desperation of being #1 on charts and much more.

I know and believe Gaga deserves all the praise in the world but is this healthy for our minds? Is this what Gaga wants from her little monsters?

She always explores so many different sides of being an artist and I truly believe she wants us to do the same and to focus on the music not on the drama or future projects or utopic scenarios about her impacting the GP like she did in the past .

Are some of us too attached to the old Gaga and blind about her present INCREDIBLE work?

Are some of us do not appreciate her present AMAZING work as it deserves to be appreciated?

In my country, the Facebook LM Group is barely active now and I do not understand why. Are we that shallow? Are we that attached to some crazy outfits and outrageous performances that we forgot what Gaga really is (a monument of talent)?

We always presented Gaga to other people as being one of the most talented and versatile artist in history and when she's showing the world that incredible talent, we care more about extravaganza  and basic pop music rather than the Gaga talent we boasted all this time.

Am I the only one with this opinion?

I know she's talented, hard-working and an incredible artist. I'm always excited about what she'll do next no matter what it is. And I couldn't care less if the GP doesn't like her as long as she's happy with what she does:ohwell:

Spoiler

btw, ASIB is going to be her first number 1 album for more than two weeks, so let's forget theories about how to impact the GP, it's clear that she only needs to be herself to achieve success and respect

You know, "some of us" want the best for her. We know how much Gaga herself is affected by people's opinions, so we just want her to be happy and successful.

I think lately Gaga has been praised a lot. It really took 1 people out of 100 to trust her. She's now in a movie and on a soundtrack that people love and appreciate. I finally see people commenting on her true singing and acting talent, not critiquing her for her crazy dresses and pop songs. Gaga is having her moment and we are just celebrating it.

I live vicariously off of Gaga so an attack on her is basically an attack on me :selena:

It doesn't affect me mentally but it does hurt me a bit in the sense that people don't understand what she tries to do. It does because I can see people fail to look deeper into something and just focusing on the surface. Gaga makes a statement, it's all about the meat dress; she releases Joanne, it's all about how she's obsessed with her dead aunt. How about talking about the message behind? How she's using her art to both honor her family and at the same time try to give a healthy ending to a grief that spans many generations? That bothers me a lot.

Of course she wouldn't want her fans to be like this. This is stan culture at its best. It may be all fun and games but I'm sure we all know it's unhealthy and useless. I care about how she's doing on the charts and how the GP views her because I think it's best that we have someone as Gaga on the top stop and not Drake. Better for society overall!

I always end up frustrated when I come here because I never see a thread like this, so thanks for coming up with something interesting lmao

omg thank you so much for this post. i was thinking about that for some time now and i believe this discussion is long overdue.

she is undoubtedly our idol which means that whenever her artistry or legacy receives negative criticism or feedback, we feel hurt. the truth is that most of us, especially the very young ones, are idolizing her in a way that they make her an external source of self esteem. in other words, stanning someone ( note: im specifically talking about "stanning" which goes far beyond than simply being a fan) also means that you are using someone elses achievements to stabilize your own self esteem. In a society that has parents choose between either work or children, it is no wonder that kids nowadays have less possibilities to develop a healthy image of themselves and their abilities, so they are bound to struggle with either feeling like they're the very best and can achieve anything or they're the very worst. in psychology we call this 'narcissism'. now back to gaga: when we engage in fan wars (especially when we talk about katy perry), when we want gaga to create trendy, radio-friendly music so that she can slay the charts and every other artist in the biz, its not something that does her any good (she clearly distanced herself from that), nor ourselves any good. its a hard pill to swallow, but us stans need to realize that gaga is not here to stabilize our delusions of grandeur that we project onto her :(. as long as we do that, we wont ever truly support her as an artist and as a human being in a way that's best for her.

Man, I'm not a native English speaker and it's kinda hard for me to accurately express exactly what's on my mind but damn, you did it so well. Your explanation is absolutely perfect and right.

I’m obsessive over her and wanna share her with the world, my friends think I’m a Gaga freak. But they accept it haha. Stan Twitter become so toxic so I’m glad I lost my account last year, I don’t want it back, even despite it being a veteran monster account that I had since the Fame Monster era, with thousands of followers.

Her image doesn’t affect me mentally in a bad way. I focus on sharing her love & music with the world and I’ll defend that woman til I die. She’s like another small part of me, I sometimes think my depression would have killed me by now if I didn’t have her in my life, her music is my savior. And each era kinda gives me something to look forward to and live for. Granted, it’s not the most important thing in my life, far from it. But I owe her a lot. I’ve walked down the street in my early school years and pretended in my head that I was cool and likeable, while listening to Government Hooker. Her music gives me confidence when I sometimes lack it. Did anyone else get that?

I don’t care too much if people dislike her but I will damn try and set them straight. I kicked off in a pub a few weeks ago cos a guy saw me putting on Yoü & I, he called it utter bullshit slated her to high heavens. I told him to be a little more open-minded and look past the crazy costumes from her earlier years. Didn’t help when the younger generation were singing along to it 😂 I bought my aunt tickets to ASIB this week, who has always thought Gaga is a bit of weirdo and she could never see the artistry behind the costumes. Always sighed when I played her music too much. She got out of Cineworld about 2 hours ago, crying and said it’s the best film she’s seen in years and that Shallow is amazing. This is the reaction I love hearing.

I actually did that a few years ago. If something Gaga released flopped, I would feel very hurt and upset and I wouldn't know why. Not in the sense of "it's a shame that her talent isn't getting enough recognition" (something which I still think), but instead it would feel like a personal failure. For example, if I saw Paws Down Little Monsters, I would start doubting Gaga and ended up feeling down at the end of the day.  I don't know anything about psychology but maybe it's because we have chosen someone to idolize and to represent us, and if that doesn't succeed, we feel like our personal "representation" is not doing well, which means that we don't succeed ourselves (?). Like we consider Gaga a part of us, and if that part goes wrong we feel like someone is wrong with us (sorry if my explanation sucks). Either way, I feel like that only happened while my identity was still forming, on top of the fact that there weren't many interesting things going on in my life at that time. In this past 2 years I've been through a lot of stuff in my life and I'm also pretty busy now, which "disconnected" me from her. I'll always be a fan and supporter of her, but the success or lack of it of her projects doesn't keep me awake at night anymore.
