Hi!

I just made this instrumental version of Why Did You Do That. I know there's a lot to be improved and I'd like to know where you find most flaws. I'm still pretty new at this.  I'd appreciate your opinions. Thank you in advance!

i'd change the main instrumental to an xylophone, because right now it sounds like a piano. also, add some reverb to some synths and stuff (mainly the piano during the chorus and the snaps).

♥.

I'd agree with the xylophone suggestion, right now it more sounds like a techno japanese bop.

(Which is still a bop, tbh :lolly:)

The chorus sounds great though! :sara: It's just the synths from the intro that's the major difference from the original.

well WDYDT instrumental is a masterpiece so of course this is very difficult to make a remake. The most important thing is the sound of the main "marimba" or "xylophone" or whatever it's called. You don't have it. Your lead instrumental sounds too much industrial and electronic. Idk if they used a synth but I don't think so but I could be wrong. Then there are some production improvements to make (especially add reverb everywhere, especially on the piano notes on the chorus). But it's a great beginning ! I'm looking forward to see the final version!! Keep going

Thank you so much! You're right, I should have added way more reverb (I did add it but only a little)

Thanks a lot! You're right, the synths from the verses were the most difficult to replicate, not only because of their particular sound, but also because the notes are difficult to hear. There are different layers and it's hard to hear them, especially without having the stems or the official instrumental.

Thank you so much for your feedback! There's actually a marimba synth in the verses, but the rest of layers cover it up. The first one sounded too poor by itself, that's why I decided to add more synths. I guess I should have turned its volume up, though. Have you ever worked on a project that involves creating a marimba sound? If so, would you give me any advice?

In what concerns the reverb, you are absolutely right, I should have added way more. I don't know much about mixing either, so I guess there's a lot to improve there as well. Thank you again for your response, I appreciate it. Cheers!

You'll get there, don't worry about it. I could PM you a filtered instrumental if it helps! :D

It's funny how to the average person the music in this track can sound simple, basic even, but there's actually a lot of layers and a lot of work involved in making them. :sara: It's amazing.

If you don't have the marimba sound on your software then you have to use some different instruments and mix them so they sound like you want. You can try with xylophone, guitar, or even a synth. Anyway you'll probably have to cut off the high frequencies. I don't really how to help you more. Try different instruments ! and don't forget to share (at least to me) when it's improved !

I absolutely agree! When you listen to a particular melody, it may seem that there's only one instrument playing it, but there are many actually.

I'd really appreciate you sending me that filtered instrumental. Thanks a lot!
