ARTPOPSYCHOLOGY 6,270
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vox.com/platform/amp/culture/2018/10/11/17949016/a-star-is-born-gender-consent-criticism-sexism Have you guys seen this ****? Does this writer not miss the point of the movie or am I being too protective of our girl here? Excerpts below. “But A Star Is Born’s narrative never critiques this constant overriding of Ally’s decision-making. Instead, it consistently portrays Ally as saying no because she’s timid, not because she really wants to say no. It frames her as needing to be pushed and guided by the more experienced men around her into doing what she really wants. This brings us to the other deeply frustrating aspect of this film: Ally, like arguably all of the “stars” before her, lacks control over her own life and career.” “Built into this shift is a change in the idea of what it means to be a star. The Star Is Born narrative thesis is that there’s an innate mystique around “stardom,” closely tied to the idea of a kind of mystical femininity that appears in conjunction with benevolent sexism. Beneath the manufacturing of image that comes after they’ve been discovered, the women stars don’t have to do anything, at least initially, to cultivate stardom; they simply have to be.”

ARTPOPSYCHOLOGY 6,270
Just now, TheShameMonster said: oppression is everywhere in the eyes of these people a sad way to go through life Agreed. Not everything needs to go back to our current ****ed up social and political climate. A great artistic and visual movie was released and it needs to be dissected like this. It’s also the first article you see when you google ASIB

REALITY 76,620
I don't even know what he's really trying to say. Using "sophisticated" words and phrases like "mystical femininity" and "innate mystique" are really the only things this author's got for him. He just seems to have missed the point of the movie entirely. 𝔊𝔬𝔬𝔡𝔟𝔶𝔢, ℑ'𝔩𝔩 𝔰𝔢𝔢 𝔶𝔬𝔲 𝔦𝔫 𝔪𝔶 𝔡𝔯𝔢𝔞𝔪𝔰
shame 25,360
SPOILER INCOMING: Did the writer miss the part of the movie where Ally willingly steps forward onto the stage to sing Shallow with Jack? Did Jack forcibly DRAG this woman across to stage with a gun to her head to perform with him? Did the writer also miss the part where Ally consciously signed with Rez and his label to make it into the mainstream? Did she not also give him an ultimatum when she said she would cancel the tour if Jackson can't come with her? Yeah, sounds like the female lead really lacked some autonomy Ally made many conscious decisions on behalf of herself and the people she loved and should be respected and acknowledged for that. Not everything is rape. Also it's offensive that this petty narrative this writer is contriving is actually deviating from the main issue and message of the movie which is mental health and the struggle of addiction. smh angels forever, forever angels
Ada 1,665
I wonder if they think, not twice, but at least once before coming up with these articles. Do they really expect every piece of art to show people living an ideal life in a Utopia? Jackson was an alcoholic! He had a most likely sexist father (given the time and his ways of rising his children) and was a rock star. Would you really expect him to be a SJW? Tbh I'm so fed up with these people. There's no way of saying something valuable if you just show how beautiful it all would be if we just behaved this certain way. You don't show the nasty consequences, people won't understand, people won't learn.
Siena 6,268
ugh some people try to find sexism/racism in everything, and which only makes things worse its a beautiful story with amazing music, acting and cinematography and that is that. If you don't like it fine, but don't come up with bullshit overly analyzed reasons for why you disliked it

TheAlpha 3,830
Sometimes I wonder, am I moderate? I really don’t want to label myself as one. But damn. These SWJ are getting on my nerves.. Someone on YouTube mentioned this. She said that the Oscars will probably not Award this film because of the whole MeToo movement. I just don’t see the correlation. This is about Mental Health. Drug Abuse. Alcoholism. You know this is just my opinion, right?

RabbitHeart 795
I thought the point of their relationship was that it was co-dependent, which is what exacerbated the uh...problems that arose toward the end of the film. Gaga has definitely said that the movie is about co-dependence......................so their relationship isn't supposed to be perfectly healthy for either of them. I think everything they read into was done intentionally to stress this point?
Pierre 10,480
It's. A. Movie. Imagine if all the movies were made to please SJW and everybody ❝Is not blue, not turquoise, not lapis. It's actually cerulean❞.
