It's not worth it if there's going to be major backlash - I'm sure there are plenty of other exciting opportunities.

A plight is a plight. I wish people would stop comparing certain plights. Yes fat people are unfairly judged. Yes people of color are unfairly judged. They don't outweigh each other, because they are two different issues.

Respectfully, I believe that being overweight is not an immutable characteristic... you can't change your race or sexuality, and therefore I DO believe that special protections should be in place for those vulnerable communities of people.

We are getting to a point in our culture where there are vultures who demand society bend to accept their bad habits, and they take advantage of progressively-minded people to push that selfish agenda.

That being said, everyone deserves respect and to be treated equally. By no means am I saying that fat people should be ridiculed. But I also don't think it's healthy to "promote" it as being the same as race, gender or sexuality.

People are arguing over Gaga playing the character of a fat purple squid woman of an American studio's rendition of a Danish fairy tail.

And they're arguing that the character has to be black and fat? What is wrong with the world?

I'm all in for a drag queen playing the part of Ursula for diversity purposes, but if Gaga or any other "thin" white/black/brown etc. wo/man was cast, people shouldn't go all up in arms about it. The Disney version has been so watered down from its Danish roots that casting shouldn't matter anymore except to purists of the original animated adaptation.

If an actor or actress plays the role well, then that's what should matter for an ethnically ambiguous feminine character.

For something like Aladdin for example, as an Arab, I'm glad they picked actors from all around what could be considered the "Muslim world". Because Aladdin was a late addition to 'Alf Leila wa Leila' (a thousand and one nights) which I consider to be Islamic Literature (in the sense it includes cultures across the Muslim world not just the Arab world; Arab, Persian, North African etc.).

It doesn't really matter Aladdin's actor is Egyptian not Iraqi, but that he's Arab. Which suffices enough not to be deemed disrespectful (which still can happen of course) to Arabs (it was rumored they were gonna cast an Indian actor which imo is ridiculous. Just because we're both "brown" doesn't mean we're culturally linked.

Maybe Gaga is just going to be the skinny Ursula that tries to trick Prince Eric into falling inlove with her. 🤷‍♂️

Maybe they expand that part.

I think it would be amazing to have her be the gorgeous Ursula that Eric falls in love with.

Why exactly is this an issue? And thicker people do have media representation. I don’t understand. We always have to find issues in everything right? :chica:

i am 99.9% sure the live action will be mostly cgi and will only be modeled after the actor/actresses' face, so her body type won't matter, tbh. overall, if disney makes ursula skinny, i will be SOOOOOOO disappointed because she's one of the only plus size female disney characters.

♥.

F*ck off. There are tons of unhealthy skinny people. No need for such an ugly comment.

The comment wasn't saying only fat people were unhealthy tho...

It said that being fat is unhealthy and it's true.

Everyones unhealthy. Had it been a bunch of skinny people complaining, I highly doubt that user would've said that. The comment was unnecessary no matter how you look at it.

Since Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel, has so much discrimination for the LGBTQ community and nearly ruins Ariel for me....I say we have Gaga play Ariel and show her WHAT IS UP. :)
