REALITY 77,318
It's interesting because I felt like the movie was both too long and too short. On one hand, there were times where I noticed that the movie was long. If I'm being honest, the pacing of the movie was my biggest (and really, my only) issue with the movie. That being said, I felt like the second half of the movie was a little rushed. It's weird to say because even though the movie was already long, I felt like they could have delved deeper into Ally's transition from a "nobody" to a mega pop star. As it’s more of a “Movie with music” (Theres a term for this I just can’t remember). If they fought and it went straight into the top 40 sound of Before I cry it would have taken away from the sincerity of the fight and made it look cheesy (IMO)

I suppose we get the idea without them having to be so literal but it was kind of missing. Not the bore worms!

It would have been so cheesy and would have made the movie a musical. I ****ing hate musicals because the random breaking out in song is so unrealistic and cheesy and it takes me out of the film. DONAJENDRO 1,914
Ally gets famous super quickly, if they pushed that closer to Jack's suicide it would've made sense as well Mad Onna

THIS, at first I was thinking that scene 98 should have been a bit more aggressive, but I thought it was BEAUTIFUL how he kept staying friendly and calm (especially to her). It would've been a cliché
TheBadRomancer 1,021
If Ally has Def Jam who wants to sign her instead of Interscope and Rez says "nah, they're not worth what you have to offer". throw in the shade. In all seriousness though, I would have liked a little more focus on the substance abuse piece. I know that it was very present and everything, but maybe like more of the road to sobriety, or... I don't ****ing know. I DON'T KNOW. Nevermind.
Clip 5,100
I feel like they could have shown more of Ally’s dealing with being famous and her public image. Is she happy? Does she become famous out of the blue and is completely okay with it? What is her relationship with fans? Idk, but apart from the bathtub scene where she’s nervous, it feels like she didn’t change at all. I expected her to become more of a diva or be super stressed or something. NewUsername 11,445
The only things I could maybe add are 1) seeing more about how Ally handles the whole situation of Jack's addiction and how she deals with it. If you think about it, we didn't really see her talk a lot a lot about it with Jackson or e.g. her friend. 2) maybe a scene of Ally finding Jack's body, I think that would have been a very emotional scene that could have been a stellar performance. But at the same time, it's also interesting how they portrayed it after all. It adds to the feeling of a person who's died suddenly not being there anymore from one moment to another, which was definitely the case for Jack, even though he was spiraling down. TropicOfCANCER 6,292
Ally’s fame was rushed, but also not really. Yes she want viral, but we know she got a record deal after Rez saw her perform on Jackson’s your ,she rush released a single/with a splashy billboard which presumably smashed , and then she put on an album and performed on a and then won a Grammy. Also, the tinnitus was a huge part of the story? How was it underdeveloped?

Like...why was she so seemingly okay with being transformed into something she wasn’t? She started out tough at nails but then changed into someone who was fairly submissive/indifferent to her career choices. I wish I understood her motivations more ( was she seeking fame/wealth or artistic fulfillment?)
erikaisamonster 231
Overall, I loved the movie, but there were definitely some holes. I felt that Dave Chappelle's character was random AF... like who was this guy? It felt so out of place. I was thinking the same thing about the ear thing - it kind of felt like some random addition. I honestly thought his tragedy was going to be that he would lose his hearing and never be able to hear Ally sing again I thought the end was a bit rushed like a sprint to the finale. I wish they showed them happily reunited for a bit longer, but I guess the point is that he was triggered so quickly upon his return home, And lastly, I wish they showed Ally's reaction to getting the news about Jackson or someone finding him. xxx

I actually listened to a movie critic podcast where they were discussing ASIB and they said they were wondering if the movie was about 3 and a half hours long and Bradley edited it down to the 2 hour 15 mark, interesting point and kind of makes sense - it cuts off at random scenes and you kind of fill in the pieces of what happened. However, I do think certain areas could have been developed more. xxx
nakedidea 745
'IS THAT ALRIGHT' is such a beautiful song that I don't know how to feel about it being played during the first credits. I also love 'I DONT KNOW WHAT LOVE IS' during the wedding, but maybe 'IS THAT ALRIGHT' looks better? Idk, it's such a beautiful, sad, lovely song that I need a striking visual to it.
