Fanta 5,019
I always have these discussions with my friends but never discussed it with this lovely fan base. This is regarding Gaga being a ‘chameleon’ in the music industry. Gaga set the tone to constant reinvention when it comes to fashion, music and overall talent and image. You never knew what to expect with her and she was so hardworking and involved in every minor detail. While her devotion, kindness, talent and authenticity resulted in a huge devoted fan base she also got ripped apart a lot in the media for the same things that made her a chameleon. Today I see a lot of manufactured (and not so much manufactured) artists getting contract praise for all these outrageous looks or doing the bare minimum. Cardi B and Nicki with their constant over the top outfits (and it doesn’t quite work). Or Rihanna being praised for the bare minimum like wearing a mini dress with a hat or a tuttu skirt with jeans. I find it kind of unfair that Gaga paved the way for all these artists especially in the fashion and image field only to shine the spotlight on highly manufactured artists with hardly any input or creativity to them. It’s cringy how stan Twitter goes crazy over the most basic things, which is why I’m really glad she’s getting all the praise and acclaim and success she deserves now. I guess my question is, do you think Gaga was done wrong while other less deserving artists got praise for doing a fraction of what she put into her image/career? Bio 23,538
Girl have you ever heard of Cher, Michael, Madonna, Bowie, Prince and many many others?

It doesn’t take an equation to realize that I’m talking about Gaga in the modern sense. Gaga is arguably the last legend of the same sort therefore her influence in today’s industry is highly comparable. Cardi B herself said Gaga is her inspiration, so its not far fetched to think that. SpeechIess 1,060
Musically? Yes, to a certain degree but when it comes to outfits and overall image, which I won't deny shocked people, she didn't set the bar she just helped it move up. Bowie really set it in place from the get-go, especially for a mainstream artist during his era, he was a true trendsetter and innovator. But I won't deny there were copycats of the "Gaga" look such as Nicki and even Katy at certain points.

Well, she did not "set the blueprint". Fans of those artist I mentioned might even say Gaga is being praised for repeating looks those artist created decades ago. It's the way it is, everything is recycled. What you can do is enjoy the artists you like and support their music. What you shouldn't do is spend time worrying about artist x or artist y getting praise even though you don't think they deserve it. Trust me, it will be better for you, speaking from experience. Space Cowboy 11,670
In this generation, most definitely.
Mister Gaga 22,007
I think she'll be the first one (or maybe one out of few) to have MAJOR success in many fields. Lots of artists participated in movies and sang many music genres. But can you name someone who excelled and slayed in every single aspect?
C1trus 4,230
I'm still pressed when Nicki was asked if she's inspired by Gaga and then she answered "I'm inspired by her creativity". How about just saying "yes" right away? Or that one interview when she didn't want to talk about her being inspired by Gags. Still moving on... ι'м ρυℓℓιηg үσυя sтяιηgs
C1trus 4,230
I thought you're saying "blueprint for ideal chameleon in music industry " Imo Gaga is the ideal chameleon that changes in a wider sense (looks, music, theme, vocal approach etc) and will never be the same again. ι'м ρυℓℓιηg үσυя sтяιηgs

Or what I will do is share my opinion and agree to disagree. Having an opinion doesn’t translate into worrying about who gets what praise when it’s showing up daily on my timeline. Must I remind you, I’m talking about Gaga being the main influencer of this current generation of artists. No one is denying the influence of the greats and legends of the past. However, it was after Gaga stepped on the scene that music videos became an event again. It was also when all these artists suddenly attached themselves to the LGBT community for sales, and also started up with the ridiculous costumes compared to Gaga’s fashion. Twitter 14
Yes to some extent. I’m happy she didn’t exploit all her talents back then. It definitely would have ruined her career.
RAMROD 103,596
Nope. She is doing the same multi talented women before her does She is very good at it, and just like some of her seniors, she got awarded for it. Smother Em Eh 6,918
Of this generation, yes! But not the Fashion sense because David Bowie, Madonna & Cher did it way before her. Gaga is the ultimate chameleon. Literally no one switches up their sound/ look/ image like she does. No one! Get Applause & G.U.Y to 1B views! scallywally 626
No. Love her respect her but c'mon. Without Madonna there would be no gaga. Madonna is the blueprint. Its her we should thank for paving the way for fans to have Gaga. If you ask gaga seriously, shed agree. .
