metalguru 1,553
God no. There is not a real spark of creativity in those songs of ASIB. They are good songs but they all sound like something else; Whitney Houston here, Mariah Carey there. The songs are well-executed, planned to win the hearts of the masses type of corporate stuff. I think real ballads of Gaga are yet to arrive. And I would rather have a futurist pop Gaga than second hand ideas Gaga. If you consider I'll Never Love Again it only means that you are refusing the acknowledged popular music of last 50 years all over the globe.
Regina George 59,387
Yeahh we’ll just undermine her first (and most successful) 4 albums as “generic pop albums”. Can y’all not bash pop music as if it’s for some kind of stupid people? Gaga is POP, She will always be POP and new fans who came into this fan base during jazz phase or joanne era can just stop talking about it. Gaga is pop artist and her first albums are everything but generic.
StarstruckIllusion 52,652
Can y’all stop acting like Gaga hates doing pop music? You’re just forcing your own narrative onto her bc you want dusty conservative white men to praise her and call her a legend by doing classic music. She already is. Quit saying it until she actually says she hates doing electropop music. Plus she’s already worked with Sophie and BoyzNoise, before you disappoint yourselves when LG6 has electronic elements. One emotional album and suddenly everything else Gaga has done is trash ugh stop it’s so fake.

I don't know if you're familiar with Born This Way? Or Applause? Or Bad Romance? Or like half of Gaga's discography? Pop music doesn't have to be (and isn't) just about sex and partying. It can be just as deep as any love ballad, it can discuss the complexities of being famous, and, maybe more than any other genre it can really change the world. lairofhk 931
Clearly writing pop songs is a thing she excels at; that’s why she Lady Gaga. In recent years she’s strayed away a bit from mainstream pop but in the process I feel like she’s become more comfortable with who she is as a person and she’s also grown up. She will always have a knack for writing pop songs and im sure LG6 will remind of us that. That being said, it is crystal clear that she is far too talented a human being to limit herself to just pop music. She has too much to give and I’m so excited to see where her career goes next. A truly talented human being
C1trus 4,341
Poor "Pop Bop" being the bad guy now. I just hope y'all aren't caught up in the moment and won't regret saying these when Gaga releases a "pop bop" masterpiece in the future. ι'м ρυℓℓιηg үσυя sтяιηgs

TEANUS 15,004
I think these songs show quite the opposite. Her "generic" pop bops still **** on any others because of her vocals, lyrics, and delivery. Her voice is so versatile. Look at Shallow vs. Hair Body Face (especially the bridge). Othon 33,458
I'm sorry... I just have to comment again. This is, hands down, the most ridiculous thread I've ever seen in my entire time on this cult site. Gaga gets a taste of massive mainstream success again and you all abandon everything she stands for, begging her to make big, cheesy 1990's ballads for the rest of her career while discrediting all of the experimental, challenging, intelligent, radical work she's produced over the course of her career? The work that changed the face of the music industry for a decade? That garnered her three Album of the Year nominations? That helped change the way the public perceived queer people and women? That intentionally subverted pop clichés, filtering normative conventions through a postmodern lens? We're just going to dismiss all of that work as the superficial musings of an immature party girl, in the service of some old-fashioned ballads that echo countless other artists that came before Gaga? I just...

Because Gaga's early hits were actually very unusual and shifted the entire direction of pop radio. So, I have to imagine that anyone who doesn't understand that must just be very young and not aware of that context because they weren't... there for it? Lmao idk. Pop music is unfortunately not amenable to well written story telling songs these days. It's all about hooks, nobody cares about the message unless its an obvious feel good song, and songwriting in pop music is generally horrid. There are exceptions of course, but there is a reason pop is looked down on by people who love songs. Hard to believe that at one time Elton and Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, etc, were able to be pop artists with actually good, well written lyrics. Twitter 14
You’re right pop bops were never Gaga’s thing. Ballad bops has always been Gaga’s thing.
danilov 288
i've noticed this. sure she makes good bop songs, but whenever she sings it, there's just something in her voice that is not for these kinds of songs. her voice suits the ballads well. OMF 3,453
Gaga can sing ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. Her pop songs is what made her a music legend to begin with, she is just in a different phase right now and she is absolutely killing it!
