Gaga's Sexual Assault in Songs

In a recent interview, Gaga explained how she stands by her art and it's contextual truth. She explained how every record she has released is representative of her true, authentic self at that time - and at that time only. This is why Gaga is constantly changing in her image, her sound and in her lyrics. Each era embodies her truth at that time.

Thinking about this, one topic that Gaga has tackled since the beginning of her career is the topic of her sexual assault. It is interesting and inspiring to analyse how Gaga's interpretation of this issue has evolved over time, representing her various truths regarding it. For example:

Monster:

- "We might've ****ed not really sure, don't quite recall" - there is a lot of confusion expressed in this song.

- "There was a monster in my bed" - Gaga is recalling the specific incident. Her interpretation is that this man is a monster - he is powerful, dominant and forceful.

Swine:

- "Your just a pig inside a human body" - he isn't a 'powerful' monster... he is a pig... ugly, disgusting and gross. He is someone to be pitied.

- In 'Monster', Gaga recalled the fear and confusion of the incident - in 'Swine', she knows what happened and is angry about it. How dare someone act so disgustingly towards me.

Til it Happens to You:

- In this song, Gaga has accepted what has happened. She isn't recalling it in the same way and she doesn't have the same kind of anger directed at him - more at other people.

- 'Til it happens to you, you don't know how it feels' / 'What the hell do you know?' - Gaga is telling the world that she is a sexual assault survivor and she won't stand for anyone telling her that she isn't. She knows what she has overcome and she knows that she is strong. No one can tell her otherwise anymore.

I think when you look at this specific incident, whilst it's incredibly sad, it's a very 'good' example of how Gaga's interpretations and truths change era-to-era. She is a constant evolution and this is why we have so many 'different' Gaga's. I find it very interesting to look at and analyse, which we can do with Gaga's lyrics since they are her own and come from deep within.

Swine and TIHTY are confirmed to be about sexual assault. People make that theory about Monster all the time, however, I just think it's a song for a guy who was quite gifted by mother nature :vegas:

This lyric kind of ties together the themes of Swine and TIHTY. It's like, this guy was a total asshole but it happened to me. It's more an angry acceptance than just rabid anger or confusion.

Not just in those songs.

A boyfriend of mine in 2010 said something that I'll never forget and he was so right. "She's got a good voice but all her music has a battered-wife feeling." That's such a clear way of putting it.

I love Gaga because her songs have so many different meanings, yet people complain about her writing skills...

I.e. I always interpreted Swine to be about her pain, she was suffering because of her hip and than because of the surgery, and she gave the pain a form, a living form, a "pig", living inside her and always "squealing out" in the most different moments.

Monster is FOR SURE about sexual assault, and we just never realized it.

"I wanna dance but he took me home instead" wanting to have fun, but pressured into sex

"He tore my clothes right off, he ate my heart and then he ate my brain" she fell in love with him, then ****ed with her head after assaulting her
