Best Original Song options/nominations/rules

So the Best Original Song nominations are definitely a sure shot, and most probably a win. But which songs do we think will be, or should be submitted in this category?

The rules in the Best Original Song category are complex, and they have been changed a few times in the past years.

Clips of eligible Original Songs shall be viewed by all members of the Music Branch who will use a preferential voting system to produce a shortlist of 15 titles.  Five nominees for Original Song will then be chosen by a second round of balloting, again using a preferential voting system. The five achievements receiving the highest number of votes will become the nominations for final voting for the award.

A maximum of two songs may be nominated from any one film. If more than two songs from a film are in contention, the two songs with the most votes will be the nominees. It's interesting to add that only four films have featured three nominated songs: Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Dreamgirls, and Enchanted. Dreamgirls and Enchanted lost on every nomination: After these two consecutive defeats, a new rule was instated in June 2008 that a film could have no more than two songs nominated.

No more than two statuettes will normally be given in the Original Song category.  A third statuette may be awarded when there are three essentially equal writers of a song. The Music Branch Executive Committee has the right, in what it alone determines to be a very rare and extraordinary circumstance, to award a fourth statuette. However, this is VERY rare, and most likely there will me only two stuatuette winners.

So, what do we think? Which songs will be the focus for this category? I think they will definitely go with one Gaga solo song, but they might also want to push one Gaga/Bradley duet, or even a Bradley solo. At first I though that I Will Never Love Again was the frontrunner, but with the undeniable I Believe I Can Fly similarity (ironically, I Believe.. was also a movie song) I am not so sure it's a great idea, so something else might win the award instead. I'm starting to think that Always Remember Us This Way and Shallow have the best shot. I Will Never Love Again sounds almost too much like a movie song, if that makes sense.

Either Shallow or IWNLA, but not both :grr: I'm not trying to have us lose because of the vote splitting

REALITY

Realistically, I think it will be I Will Never Love Again and Shallow (if they are going to push two songs).

Personally, I would like Is That Alright? and Always Remember Us This Way (or I Will Never Love Again, I can't decide between the two).

EDIT - I'm listening to Before I Cry and ****! Her ballads are so good on this soundtrack!

They will FOR SURE submit a few songs, maybe even more than two, and possibly end up with two nominations. The "two song" rule was introduced to minimize vote splitting, which happened when 3 songs from a movie were nominated.

Girl, you can sing I Believe I Can Fly's chorus perfectly on top of INLA

maybe you're not noticing the difference because the style of singing is different, Gaga is more subtle and R Kelly is belting, but you can literally sing one on top of the other in the chorus

I think they should push Hair Body Face. It's too gut-wrenching, heartbreaking not too. I couldn't not cry during the performance of Hair Body Face in the movie. It's our winner.
