Galactic Mess 1,393
I will never understand why people continue to think this. MTN is a wonderfully, confidently, and maturely directed video. And while she didn't consult another director, she paired up with total pros like Darius Khondji (whose resume ****s all over most other DPs in the biz). Gaga's more than demonstrated a continued willingness to seek advice from "professionals" as well an excellent grasp over the tools of cinematic communication. I think the execution of the prelude was great, but the song part was just disappointing and tacky -there was too many studio scenes, and the angle of the street dance scene was really bad, besides that messy nonsense at the end. Anyway, this commercial has the potential to slay lives... And it's only a few days away!!!
SKANK 14,288
This is the full TV cut right? And then the next video is just for fans later on. (If that ever even arrives knowing her) I hope that isn't the cut for television, it is way to choppy and incoherent. I assumed this was just a little taste for the fans. Oh, I thought it was the TV version because it's exactly (almost) 30 seconds. Which is a standard slot time for US television

Which is a standard slot time for US television I think, guided by the word trailer, that this is just a sneak peak for fans. As a commercial it wouldn't work imo, it doesn't express the point. I think the real commercial will be released along with the full version.
kupo 201
I think the execution of the prelude was great, but the song part was just disappointing and tacky -there was too many studio scenes, and the angle of the street dance scene was really bad, besides that messy nonsense at the end. Anyway, this commercial has the potential to slay lives... And it's only a few days away!!! Well, I can't say much as to whether or not you like the angle, but I don't think there's inherently anything wrong with the high angle. I actually really liked it, because for a song about New York that angle actually gave you a sense of geography and space. It wasn't all claustrophobic close ups. I also liked the extended studio scene. The whole video very purposely walks this fine (and strange) line between verite style filming and aesthetics and outright fantasy (yes, yes, this video more than any other to date takes head on her obsession with reality versus fantasy and the way the two bleed together) and I think the extended studio scenes are a perfect foil for the very music-videoish rooftop car explosion dance scenes. And I don't think the "mess" at the end is messy at all (I assume you're talking about the rapid-fire montage--I actually thought it was fairly tightly edited and also a bit ballsy to not just re-edit scenes into it that we've already scene [such as her apartment freak out and the ballet stuff] but to introduce new episodes from her life in those super-quick snippets). I actually just rewatched this video and it's even BETTER than I remember. I fukcing lover her use of asynchronous sound throughout, and especially love the way film reel can be heard faintly in the background of pretty much the whole prelude. So, so good! :worship: Edited August 14, 2012 by kupo

Matti 91
Well... If the full 3min cut of this commercial does not follow a music video-like structure and doesn't feature the full song, it will be like 5 minutes after the release until some fans put together a music video for scheisse. This is just too great!
