While we at it, anyone wanna tell me what twist she talked about in the interview for Beats 1. Like did I not get the ending or something?

I didn't listen to the interview yet, but I've heard people talking that

Spoiler

Generally speaking the weakest point in the film is the pacing. It was avery clear weak point so I have to agree with you on that. Overall the film was top notch and the acting was outstanding but like you said some scenes felt underdeveloped and just rushed.

At some points, it almost felt intentional. I think I was going into the movie expecting the normal triumphant formula so I was expecting this really polished 100% perfectly edited film and got something else - which I ended up loving. It still felt like a “Hollywood” movie but it also felt... real? Idk how to describe it.

But there were some pacing elements that threw me off.

Overall, I left that theater feeling so heavy. Gaga and Bradley (!!) really sold their performances.

I think the ending was perfect as it was, but had some problems with pacing - as the rest of the movie. For me, the movie could've extended the snippet scenes to 10 minutes in total. Especially when Ally went on tour with Jack, it felt very rushed with showing just some cutscenes :awkney: .

And at the end, I would've liked to know what happened to her manager, how she said goodbye to Jack (with at least a short scene of his funeral) and then cut to the real last scene (which I think was perfect as it was  )

Ew, David!

Cavadour

In his (already quoted in GGD) Talkhouse page, Jim Hemphill compares Bradley work to Cassavetes' A Woman Under The Influence. The pacing, camera work and editing are very similar. Also the overall realistic approach à la news report / documentary were stage direction seems almost nonexistant with cahotic family reunions and actors looking like in freewheel impro. The story is not told in a straight timeline. Events unfold like pieces of a —sometimes incomplete— puzzle left to the viewer to figure out the whole picture...

Strangely I also found many analogies between ASIB and 5F2

I loved the ending. Mainly because I love INLA, it's definitely the highlight of the film.

I was quite surprised that it literally ended after the performance, with that close up shot of Gaga crying.

However I think it makes sense. It starts to get a bit cliche if say, we see Ally visited Jackson's grave - or Ally writing a song about Jackson. It ended where it needed to.

might be an unpopular opinion but I absolutely loathed the decision to cut to Jackson singing INLA instead of just Ally continuing to sing the entire song while flashbacks of their love / intimate moments cut in & out during the performance.

for me, I connect best emotionally to the music so that abrupt cut really ruined the ending for me :emma:

Thats interesting bc that exact moment when they cut to it was when I started to cry. It punched me so hard in the chest with that abrupt cut.

the ending left me scarred:tony:

I cry every time I hear INLA

She is winning again…. somehow she always stays here. I can’t stand it.

I think that might be the intention of bradley when he decided upon that, because my friend started crying once they cut to it as well, I guess i'm just one of those weirdos :flop:

The ending was conducted perfectly. The impending sense of heartbreak, the realisation of the events, the way Ally performed obliviously yet continued to have Jackson on her mind. It was so sad and tragic, but in a beautiful kind of way. And for it to be followed by the performance of INLA was the cherry on top because it captured the words everybody wanted to say about the ending in the most elegant, poignant way.

That abrupt ending shot on her face was the best part of the film to me. Just her face, crying, looking in to the camera, reflecting the tragedy of her loss.
