Every song was so special.

The scene at the end where she performs this was so crazy. It was beautiful. I think if the public stopped listening to basic old music with the most basic lyrics and melodies, then maybe it could have a lot of impact, maybe the same or more than Whitney's "I Will Always Love You.". If the general public actually care about real music, and meaningful songs and lyrics, then yes this could be Gaga's go to song. Let's just hope that people recognise the beauty of the song.

Ughhh sorry but this is infuriating... just because it's a slow piano ballad from a sad scene, why does that make it more "real music" or more "meaningful"? This song is fine, it suits the scene very well. I'm sure some people will find it meaningful.

But that doesn't mean that other songs, just because they are more upbeat, or poppy or electronic, are less "real". To call something "real music" doesn't even make any sense to begin with... real as opposed to what, fake music? But pop songs make people feel good, it gives them energy and helps them have fun. Surely that means more than just a sad piano song? (Especially one about heartbreak - really the majority of people probably haven't experienced an intense heartbreak and can't relate).

Spoiler

And anyway, the lyrics to this particular song are hardly groundbreaking. They're neither smart metaphors or startlingly honest... just kind of cliché ballad lyrics. I don't find them to be "above" pop lyrics at all tbh.

From "Work":

"Work, work, work, work, work, work
You see me I be work, work, work, work, work, work
You see me do me dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt
There's something 'bout that work, work, work, work, work, work…"

Such creative lyrics.

You forgot the verses:

Spoiler

Dry!... Me ah desert him
No time to have you lurking
Him ah go act like he don't like it
You know I dealt with you the nicest
Nobody touch me, you no righteous
Nobody text me in a crisis
I believed all of your dreams, adoration
You took my heart and my keys and my patience
You took my heart on my sleeve for decoration
You mistaken my love I brought for you for foundation
All that I wanted from you was to give me
Something that I never had
Something that you've never seen
Something that you've never been!
Mmmmm!
But I wake up and act like nothing's wrong
Just get ready for...

...

Beg you something please
Baby don't you leave
Don't leave me stuck here in the streets, uh huh
If I get another chance to
I will never, no never neglect you
I mean who am I to hold your past against you?
I just hope that it gets to you
I hope that you see this through
I hope that you see this true
What can I say?
Please recognize I'm tryin', babe!
I have to

...

Yeah, okay
You need to get done, done, done, done at work, come over
We just need to slow the motion
Don't give that away to no one
Long distance, I need you
When I see potential I just gotta see it through
If you had a twin, I would still choose you
I don't wanna rush into it, if it's too soon
But I know you need to get done, done, done, done
If you come over
Sorry if I'm way less friendly
I got niggas tryna end me, oh
I spilled all my emotions tonight, I'm sorry
Rollin', rollin', rollin', rollin', rollin'
How many more shots until you're rollin'?
We just need a face to face
You could pick the time and the place
You spent some time away
Now you need to forward and give me all the...
...

I don't get why people always use that song as an example of bad pop lyrics. It's literally like a script. The chorus is basically an instrumental riff between the verses, except with their voices instead of instruments.

I won't debate the subject further because we have totally different opinions and won't get anywhere. I respect and understand your opinion, but I do disagree. :D

Well fair enough, but I think it would benefit you to appreciate the quality in all different sorts of music;) I also used to think that chart music was just thoughtless trash, but if you listen you'll find that most of it actually has really detailed and well done production, and often there are more interesting meanings behind the lyrics than you assume at first.

Born Brave

I haven’t heard INLA because I haven’t seen the film yet, but I don’t see how it could top ARUTW, BIC or ITA

Can somebody explain how special is that ending scene? I don't mind spoilers.

I guess it has something to do with Bradley's voice out of the blue singing the song.

Put a spoiler alert :)

Spoiler

In the final scene, there is an intense crescendo as Gaga is singing the final chorus, and then an immediate cutaway to a scene where Jackson performed the song for her for the first time on the piano. It's a really big tonal surprise that got the whole theater to gasp.

Those are very emotional lyrics. I'm already crying. It's almost like a poem. Who is the talented, brilliant artist who sings these powerful lyrics?
