Chic 20,830
Not to say she hasn't put out quality pop music, but let's be real - Why Did You Do That is the kind of pop Gaga a lot of us are looking for. The smooth vocals that sound like she's 22, not this perpetual Dope vocal she's been putting out since 2013. The structure, the style, it's the type of music that we all praise when it comes to other artists and is even getting acclaim from the fanbase now. The fact that this was created for the movie where it CALLED for this type of pop, shows that her not releasing catchy pop that everyone seems to love is an artistic decision more than one based on ability. She knows exactly what can hit, she just chooses not to make it. This might seem obvious to most (Gaga doesn't really make music for the charts anymore), but this has been the greatest indication that the choice to /not/ go this direction of creating conventional pop is deliberate. I don't know, maybe I'm dumb for thinking this, but WDYDT struck a chord with me in a way that I haven't felt since the TFM/BTW days. The track just feels younger and fresher, you know? The verses are divine.

Gypsy Life 118,907
Gaga has always done quality pop music. Every single album. Every single song.
Bio 23,538
I think it’s obvious she just wants to make music she likes and not cater to charts. We have all seen 5F2. And I’d rather have that than some tired pop song made to sell.
YourCureness 2,844
Excuse me? Since day one she always put out quality pop music. Mayne you just need to check the quality of your judgment?

Mayne you just need to check the quality of your judgment? Quality pop music? Yes. Commercial? Not really. That ship has sailed with the original RedOne demos. Judas is coming, let the cultural baptism begin.
LIKELADYAGAGA 4,080
Needs to rephrase. Gaga always has quality music. She just isn't a product of the industry anymore and shes way less commercial. ...and her music shows it.
lgaga1fan 2,305
The song is literally a joke in the movie, and they make fun of it. Dianne Warren helped write a cliche and parody driven song to make a point about how music is becoming meaningless nowadays.

raragaga 8,119
Joanne is proof that she can still make quality pop music xoxo
RAMROD 109,674
She always have been. There no doubts about that. The issues with some people is that she doesn't make a banger anymore, the electro pop stuffs. They don't wanna listen to any other tunes but that. Sickness 1,978
I don’t want a basic ass pop song like that but I do agree about the “I just smoked 5 packs of cigarettes” voice for everything. We know she can sing and she’s emotional about her work, it’s not needed.
GypsyBabe 22,836
Okay but you said “we all” and I couldn’t disagree with you more. She has always put out quality and not basic pop music. If you don’t enjoy it, then that’s your own problem. That is between you and your ears. ⚯͛
Young Pancake 693
You all know that those super pop songs in the movie are meant to mock the industry? It’s easy to make pop song that everyone likes, but as an artist you want to grow, develop your writing style, and explore themes that are not mainstream. Didymus 34,380
She's smart. She's in her 30s. She knows she can't compete with the little sluts, pardon, "pop stars" of today. She has to get longterm respectability and acclaim. Having one hit that will be replaced in a few years and won't be fundamental to her longterm success is just a stupid move and it's time fans realize that and let that whole fantasy go.
