Why 'Shallow' is perfect the way it is

I would like to tell you why i think that Shallow is a perfect choice the way it is!

1. Gaga revealed in a Radio Interview some time ago that her first singles of each era always are something completely new and innovative! Here we got it again! A live Version as first Single? Who did that before? Right. NO ONE

2. Showing their vocal power. Bradley and Gaga can show how good they are vocally and that a visit to their movie is worth it

3. Gaga and Bradley! Of course we all stan Mama Monster, but the movie is about a lot of other actors too, especially Bradley Cooper and he had to be featured in the first single of the soundtrack

4. The construction of the song! It's a bit different and not the typical construction of a song but I LIVE FOR THAT! It's so exciting to listen to it! I just love it

5. Compare the trailer version and the released version again! I now prefer the single version thats surprising for me but compare them again!

So monsters be positive! Its brilliant ❤

I think people disliked the song because they think it should be a pop chart hit for some reason, which makes no sense. JUST ENJOY THE ****ING SONG.

It's a wonderful song. It has a great structure and is 100% hooky all the way through. The vocals are wonderful. The instrumentation is powerful and well-composed.

I don't love the sounds of the crowd. My assumption is they included that so that people see and re-live the scene from the film when they listen to it, but IMO it's unnecessary. Everything else is great. Most of the complaints I have read stem from people's pre-conceived expectations not being met exactly, which is literally what happens every time a snippet or live version of a song comes out before an official studio version. People get used to something that is not the final product.

I also havetolaugh.jpg at the sudden influx of expert engineers we got around here complaining about "mixing," as if the vast majority of them really know what goes into mixing a piece of music.

Lol... no... everyone seems to love the song and everyone was expecting it to be the lead. However some people are just disappointed in the production/mixing/vocals of the particular version they released.

Personally it doesn't bother me because I've seen the movie so I've seen how the awkward parts fit in. But I can see why people listening for the first time would think it's a mess.

Sis, I’ve seen people here say “who’s gonna play a song with crowd noises on the radio?” fuuuuuuuck the radio.

And people don’t know **** about production and mixing lol.

I have to agree with this. People said it with Joanne as well. "There is a problem with the mixing". What the hell does that even mean?

The song probably works great in the context of the movie. I just wish it wasn't so short. Just when it starts to get going... it's finished. A longer instrumental bridge, some acoustic guitar at the end... literally anything to extend the song a bit.

I feel like in most cases, it is used as a catch-all excuse to explain a disliking of or discomfort with sounds, atmosphere, or other artistic choices that people don't like without being able to say exactly why.

I would compare it to, like, Nicki Minaj fans (and Nicki herself) throwing around the word "payola," even though they clearly do not know what it means. It has a very specific definition (paying radio DJs money to play songs on the radio, which is illegal and has been for 50 years), but they use it as a shorthand to call out a perceived injustice.

And just to add: I am not an expert music producer either, and I don't pretend to be. But I do know that unless all of these people complaining about mixing and other technical elements are listening to "Shallow" in audiophile quality formats on high-end equipment (and not on computer speakers or through Apple ear pods), their opinions on this subject are questionable.

Tea! There’s objectively nothing bad with the mix of Shallow... what “bad mixing” would mean is like if the bass was making other instruments sound muddy or vice versa or vocals having too much/too little reverb and drowning out instruments—things like that. Not the damn crowd cheering because it’s a LIVE recording. Also, judging mixing from a streaming service is pointless because the quality always drops and it’s very noticeable on spotify like the difference between listening to it on Spotify and the iTunes DL is pretty massive.

i have very good $350 bose headphones and i think the quality is mostly very good. there’s a few times it’s a little sketchy (i think the beginning of the final chorus is one of them) but all in all it sounds terrific.

PMKKARDASHiAN

When I first heard it I was underwhelmed af. I said what is this sh!t? Why are people clapping? Applause was 5 years ago? Where’s the other verse? Wtf is the shalalalalalalalalllow? Why is this ruined

but now, waking up this morning, I couldn’t get “ain’t it hard keeping it so hard core” out of my head. I kept singing “in all the good times I find myself longing” and I preordered the album.

Shallow downloaded to my phone.

I pressT play

and I’m far from the shallow now.

Im off the deep end, Ive already dived in, I don’t think I’ll meet the ground. I crashed thru the surface and I don’t see anyone around trying to hurt me.

This song is so good, and I’m glad I’m a dedicated Gaga fan and forced myself to like this because I genuinely like it now.

Oh-ooahahahahoooahahooooahahooaAAAOOOOOHHHHHH
