REALITY

I believe it. Venom's definitely going to win the opening weekend, but I don't see it doing too well overall. From what I've heard, it's not a good movie. Sony doesn't seem to have faith in it. ASIB, on the other hand, is getting a lot of praise and positive feedback. While it's opening numbers may be relatively low compared to movies like Venom, it's definitely going to get better critical and commercial acclaim in my opinion.

phantasmas

"Now Venom and A Star Is Born aren’t necessarily competing in the same demo, so there is room for both of them to end up far from the shallow (now)."

it will definitely outgross Venom. ASIB is the type of film that will also depend on 1) word of mouth and 2) people watching it again and again. like what happened to The Greatest Showman, or even Titanic--movies that, you know, have all these feels that you just have to watch it again and again. not to mention it has a great soundtrack with it. unlike Venom, where you only usually watch at the first or second week maybe, and that's it.

at the same time, i think the movie will be screened a lot again during Oscars time, Feb to March.

exciting times!

I feel like Venom has had no buzz and barely any marketing.

I was watching TV and saw several ASIB trailers but not one Venom trailer. It literally has no promo.

Venom will be highly frontloaded cos of the nerds but I have a feeling it’s gonna be a dud. It’s not part of the MCU and there’s barely any buzz about it. It’s almost like Sony don’t have much confidence in it otherwise they’d be pushing it like crazy - maybe it’s just not a great film?

ASIB already has critics, hopefully positive word of mouth from audiences will follow. And of course if anything from the soundtrack catches on, that will drive it too. I’m excited about it’s chances.

I predict that Venom will have the bigger opening weekend (because, comic book movie) ... But ASIB will make more money in the long run, as the Forbes article predicts.

The Venom movie looks effing terrible ... And I say this as a huge Spider-Man fan.  It is absolutely going to be frontloaded.  I can see ASIB staying in theaters for much longer (and throughout the Holiday Season) as the hype for awards season starts.
