There is a chance... 3 Billboards was the favourite last year, in 2018, with WAY better odds and yet the #2 choice The Shape Of Water won Best Picture. La La Land was the favourite in 2017, with WAY better odds, yet the #2 choice Moonlight won Best Picture. These are really small margins too... Like 7 predict Roma to win Best Picture compared to 6 for A Star is Born... 7 predict Glenn to win Best Actress compared to 6 for Gaga... I don't want Spike Lee's ego to be any larger than it already is and felt that the movie was so incredibly unintelligent in its handling of historic parallels. It was like, "LOOK HERE. SEE. LOOK. THIS IS HAPPENING NOW AS WELL. HAHA. DONALD TRUMP. HAHA" Like, bro, anyone who made the effort to see your artsy film is definitely going out of their way to do so which means more likely than not they aren't stupid. It was eye-rolling. It also added a fat load of nothing to the race conversation but just gave Spike a chance to really make himself feel important for contributing. Great story, good acting, but lacking solid, mature direction. Sorry to Bother You was much more effective in its messaging while maintaining the same sort of pop-art approach. They always have the best song performers perform so this wasn't like, say, Kendrick Lamar performing at the Grammy's with a superior album and then having Taylor Swift win with an album received less critically acclaimed...THAT was being used for ratings.
