Sneaky Oliver 22,240
Was Gaga addressing her rape during Monster Ball Tour? I was just reading her Vogue interview and she talks about the rape: "It took years. No one else knew. It was almost like I tried to erase it from my brain. And when it finally came out, it was like a big, ugly monster. And you have to face the monster to heal"; So it seems kind of obvious now, but we didn't know about the rape at the time. Remember the monster also takes off her clothes during Paparazzi and TFM includes themes such as fear of sex and fear of men. She was 19 when she was raped and 24 during TMBT so it took her five years to open up about what happened And she kills the monster by making the story public so that's why she asks the fans to take pictures of it. This makes the Monster Ball even more frightening tbh Note: I know this is such a sensitive topic but I don't really wanna talk about what really happened but how she decided to represent it in her art. androiduser 7,438
not really, I think the creature on stage was the fame monster
Ziggy 12,050
It's two things: 1 and most importantly: The Fame Monster. It is the embodiment of all that comes with that, all the fears of the album. 2, and more of a subpoint: The fear of men, sex, etc. if part of the concept of the fame monster. She was raped in her drive for fame. So I don't think this was some direct way of talking about it, but it was more of a concept and this was a part of it. The whole Paparazzi performance really showcases the grotesque side of it
Guest ARTPOPSlays
I was actually having this conversation with a friend earlier, I think she’s been hinting at this stuff since her early career it’s just we are now finding out. She’s always served deep messages wrapped up in pop music, nobody would’ve known during that time. She’s a genius

Pamelaisley 933
I watched a performance of Paparazzi a few years ago and as the Fame Monster touched her, she said, "Don't f*cking rape me." Also, during this performance, she says, "Don't rape me." You're probably right. the moon lights her way 🌖🦇
Katie14 4,828
I think you are right. Gaga has said before that she revealed her darkest secrets through her art. She even said to an interviewer who basically asked her if she was ever sexually abused, (something like) "if my fans are smart like you they will make the same conclusion as you based on my work"

It's curious, because even as something as telling and on the nose as she is when she says "don't rape me" to the monster, I feel like she was still only being subliminal about it. Truthful, but subliminal. In retrospect, a lot of her work references the loss of bodily autonomy (MTN is a great example). I think she's slowly inched toward it for years before being outright direct about it in 2013 with Swine, and then speaking more about it on Howard Stern in 2014, and then TIHTY and onward. 3 points in and ready for more
Schizophonic 7,015
as she said, at first she thought that was normal and that was what adults do. so i guess she couldnt really seperate rape from the music industrie and at first thought it is normal to behave this way. so it came with the fame for her in a way. its a part of the fame monster but that monster has many faces and not all of them are with sexual assault. thats why she got so overly powered with sparkeling tits and guns and stuff. to protect herself with her weirdness.
