If someone is singing the word 'Shallow' as Sh 'awl' ow and the other person is singing sh 'owl' ow obviously they aren't going to blend well. The technicalities of blending - vowels, volume, etc- are something a music director can handle. I'm talking about the reciprocity between their vocal types.
