How did you 'survive' ARTPOP?

Hey Monsters,

I hope everyone is doing fine. It's my understanding that it was the lowest point in Gaga's career and for the fan base, as well, since there was a lot of backlash aimed towards Gaga. Fortunately for me, I wasn't on social media looking for Gaga at all. All I remember from that year was Applause and the VMAs performance. And unfortunately, at the same time, I wish I was around so I'd have come to her defense when everyone was trashing her. I googled Gaga with the time set back to 2013 just now just to see what the media were saying about her and I must say, they were really harsh. They were comparing her "lack" of success with Katy Perry and Eminem. So how was it for you as a Little Monster to see your girl at the top for five years and then 2013 happened?

I related to the era hard because i felt ike i was also dealing with betrayal and backlash of sorts so Do What U Want was everything at the time. It was rough and depressing but the ARTPOP era, was when i really started to hone and understand my creativity, I went from a boy to a man. The era was bittersweet but for the better. The music to this day is still adrenaline and epic and everything.

We were so worried that we couldnt even enjoy Applause being top 10 at first. But a lot of things were AWESOME in that era. Personally, I always loved it, from start to finish. Gaga gaves us great music, performances, looks, LOT of promo and interviews. Its so sad she was going through a hard time and we didnt know  (at first). I would say DWUW with no video was a low point for her and the fans. But you know... Gaga always ends up winning

I survived the era because I know that Gaga is real, has talent and genuine love for her music and her fans and that's the only thing that really matters.

Well I actually thought it was a super exciting time to be a fan - but maybe that was just because it was my first era as a proper 'stan'.

She was serving constant looks, and her changes were more drastic and more frequent than they'd ever been - going from gothic looks to Bohemian chic in a single day, then something totally fresh the next morning. There was so much uncertainty about what she was going to do, but unlike now, we never had to wait long until the next announcement, so it was always very exciting.

I think her voice also really started to improve that era, and her performances were so passionate (perhaps powered by all the emotional drama behind the scenes). And I now know she was obviously suffering a lot, but to the public's eyes she seemed happier and more fun than ever, which was nice to see.

So rather than "surviving" it, I actually really enjoyed it, and it's still definitely the most fun era I've experienced so far.

Ngl ARTPOP was a very fun and exciting era but things definitely took a turn for the worse when it came down to the second single  Katy Perry fans were ruthless, the anti-Gaga boner was really strong, Gaga was not emotionally feeling well, people who just became fans probably enjoyed that era but living through the Fame Monster & BTW era ARTPOP was a different vibe for me  ultimately you just gotta ignore the haters, the lowlifes, just crank the volume, light a Mary Jane Holland and #BuyARTPOPoniTunes

I’m gonna be honest, it was rough seeing all of that happen.

It was a roller coaster of high expectations and low derailments, but it wasn’t Gaga’s fault. There were too many conflicts behind the scenes. Thankfully Gaga recovered emotionally.

I will always wish we had had the original VMA performance and the lost music videos. At least for me, the G.U.Y. music video redeemed the era.

It kinda sucked but I never cared that much what tabloids and critics had to say, the only thing that rly got under my skin was when a radio DJ implied that they were blacklisting Gaga's new single GUY even though they were getting lots of requests for it, just because they didn't think she was cool and "didn't smell a hit." Like fuk u and ur opinion countdown boi, just play what ppl want to hear

I hated that people were that mean to her, but I took advantage of it.  It was cheaper to meet her than during the Joanne tour  and not that many people were interested in it.  Myself and 3 other people were given a behind the scenes tour of the ArtRave.  And.....Sonja was the one giving us the tour.  2 of the people that went on the tour were from Mexico and didn't speak English that well....so they didn't say much.  That let me and the other little monster Rex, do all the talking and asking questions.  After the tour of the dressing rooms and costumes and the stage set with the piano and all we got to meet Gaga and talk for a few minutes.  She was so genuine and cool and real and overly thanked us for coming and donating to the BTWF, that I was on a high that lasted for days.    Since I couldn't meet her in the height of her Fame days.....this was very special to me.  That was the summer of 2014 and I defended her on line from then on, fighting all the haters.  I love her to death and I believe she is about to get really huge again.
