I just enjoyed Gaga’s music. I miss that relationship with her as it was a much simpler experience. It was just about the music. But it is very hard to not get frustrated when other fanbases are making us feel like our artist is failing (which she obviously is not). Ultimately music since 2000 has gone in cycles between pop music and urban music. We are in an urban cycle which started out strong but is getting stale as hell. Hopefully some form of equilibrium is restored to the music industry with regards to quality. To me, it doesn’t matter what genre is dominating the charts as long as it is decent music. Its becoming very tiresome that beyond mediocre tracks are getting accolades and that collaborations are thrown on every freaking track to improve streaming numbers. This is a direct result of streaming. Honestly it'll never be restored. Hip-hop culture is too far ingrained in our culture at this point. There's no turning back. It'll dominate indefinitely. Princess Stache 2,066
From a consumer standpoint, streaming is a great thing because of the new inexpensive access to an endless catalog and archive of music; its especially good for genuine music fans to be able to discover more artists than ever and expand their knowledge of music. From a creative/artistic standpoint, its the worst thing to happen to the music industry. Like you said: 30 minutes ago, TheodoreRx said: It's led to a collab heavy industry and rushed albums just to keep artists relevant. It's made music even more disposable and hits don't seem to stick with the public like they used to. General/casual listeners and non-music fans have more power than those actually knowledgable and passionate of the field, as they are more likely to play the same songs from the same artists more than those that have a more vast musical knowledge or interest. Artists also greatly suffer from streaming because truly amazing work and artistry gets undermined by quickly disposable viral trends and one hit wonders that won't be remembered like superstars that produce quality content. I don't hate streaming, I just dislike the effects it has had on the music industry today. Nowadays everything is so boring and uneventful and the almost all the hits are so bland. Not everything is bad because there are still artists who promote their music and put their soul into it, but the downgrade in the quality is just undeniable. Quality has really and noticeably diminished. Its all about getting a quick streaming hit. Its all about which label spends the most money to get their songs on spotify playlists or how many artists you can shove onto a 2 minute 30 second track to get more people to listen. 2 minutes ago, Rumours1977 said: On the other hand, it provides easier access to all different types of music and can be helpful (in some cases) for indie artists to be heard more than before. As indie, rock, and alternative are my genres of choice, this is the only true benefit of streaming. It gives less popular artists a platform to release their music to be heard. ⚯͛

There has always been people just there for the money, but at least we had commercial good music that actually took some effort. The teenager's 90s pop is a masterpiece compared to the hits of the moment. We are getting worse everytime and I'm worried we're not getting any better or we're not getting someone to bring something new to the table. I don't think everything is lost either, but it will be harder for true talent to come up. So starry eyed on the flowery hillside, breathless and fervid amid the dandelions. KURUSHITOVSKA 20,451
People who actually adore music love to hear quality, in good high end speakers or headphones (Beats are NOT), you need a good soundcard on your PC or a good hi-fi to listen to music like it should be listened, and a CD or a vinyl (even though CDs are still compressed but not that much) but instead they prefer paying 10$ per month for a compressed audio file, on chinese cheap earphones or apple's earpods, because Tidal hiFi isn't 10$ and that's being basic because they want the audio but they don't bother to enjoy the whole experience to buy a CD, open it, play it or export it in an uncompressed format (that takes a lot of HDD space and their 16GB phones...) I mean, there are the so called Little Monsters that dare to download an mp3 extracted from youtube, they don't even know the low quality that has ¿Qué currículum tiene ésta tarántula? Bloody hooker 6,445
You have to realize that music goes through cycles. The 1970’s-80 had disco, 80’s - 90 had house, 90’s - 00’ had rock and r&b, 00’s - 10 r&b, hip-hop, and pop, and 10’s - present has EDM, tropical house, and rap/hip-hop. Pop music isn’t going to dominate forever. It has to phase out for a while, and then comeback. Streaming isn’t bad to any degree. It gives everyone a chance to be able to listen to any artist for a certain amount of money. It helps newcomers such as myself in this big cluttered industry get seen and heard. The issue with streaming is how loose the rules are regarding pure sales and streaming. The streaming concept is still relatively new. The rules are not ironed out yet, but should be in ten years. In regards to quality and concept albums, I can agree that some artist today don’t do concept albums, but I understand why. I can’t talk about quality in production, because to me it seems to be the same expect for people not using real instruments as much. Audio quality is something I don’t really care about too much. As long as it’s in basic HQ quality, I’m happy with it. I don’t need uncompressed hifi. This mutual gaze was a “longing to touch” or a "pre-coitus" stare.
