I Hate Streaming

Tbh the streaming era is so lame. It's led to a collab heavy industry and rushed albums just to keep artists relevant. It's made music even more disposable and hits don't seem to stick with the public like they used to. I know this might sound elitist, but I don't like that people can listen to music for free and then be added to the official charts. I miss when people would illegally download, or buy music. Like, why do rappers who sell barely any albums but get streams because they collab and are trendy get to be the hot acts? It's so unfair and makes me want to quit my pop culture obsession.

It's really hurt gay icons and female artists, whose fans tend to buy music. I know this might offend, but look at how many female artists dominated years ago compared to today. The music industry has become so catered to straight men who largely don't buy music.

I do agree that there have been too many collabs in the industry as of late. I'm glad that Gaga only does one on average for each album (not counting Grammy #1 Grammy)

I love it. I don’t have to buy music anymore. Just pay $9.99 monthly and I’m good.

You know this is just my opinion, right?

These rappers are dominating even more because of paid streams. Theyre paying for their music just like you are when you buy an album

That's the thing. I don't even listen to enough different artist to make streaming worth it. It'd be more cost effective to buy an album every two months.

That's great for you, and many people see it that way. I just wish people would admit that trading quality for convenience will eventually cause problems in society.

I hate streaming too. Its good in the sense that it opens up a lot of music to sample. It allows one to be more eclectic and try more genre’s, as well as smaller niche artists to get more exposure. BUT, it has lead to an extreme downgrade in quality IMO. Concept albums are being phased out because for a lot of artists and labels it is not worth the time or money. It is all about creating hits and not about the artistry behind the music or tracks. It has sapped creativity and halted musical progression. Streaming has made the music industry stale.

As bad as Gaga’s streaming is, I am glad that she is sticking to the true artist process of music.

God I'm so tired of other fanbases using Gaga's streaming against us, but look at how many collabs her contemporaries do and how they cater to straight people

This. I don't hate streaming, I just dislike the effects it has had on the music industry today. Nowadays everything is so boring and uneventful and the almost all the hits are so bland. Not everything is bad because there are still artists who promote their music and put their soul into it, but the downgrade in the quality is just undeniable.

Just like any other technological “innovation”, there are pros and cons in relation to its predecessors.

On one hand, the streaming era has increased the proliferation of terrible music. You also don’t have any sense of true ownership in terms of the content you are consuming. On the other hand, it provides easier access to all different types of music and can be helpful (in some cases) for indie artists to be heard more than before.

I never used to ever think about sales or streaming numbers or charts until I joined this online fanbase for Joanne. I just enjoyed Gaga’s music. I miss that relationship with her as it was a much simpler experience. It was just about the music.

But it is very hard to not get frustrated when other fanbases are making us feel like our artist is failing (which she obviously is not).

Ultimately music since 2000 has gone in cycles between pop music and urban music. We are in an urban cycle which started out strong but is getting stale as hell. Hopefully some form of equilibrium is restored to the music industry with regards to quality. To me, it doesn’t matter what genre is dominating the charts as long as it is decent music. Its becoming very tiresome that beyond mediocre tracks are getting accolades and that collaborations are thrown on every freaking track to improve streaming numbers. This is a direct result of streaming.
