Theory: That Review From Yesterday was Staged

I've read that the critic embargo is lifted this Friday, to where reviews can be posted online. The review yesterday (that has since been deleted) was a flawless review that it gave it immense praise. I think it's a little coincidental that it has been the ONLY review so far.

Don't get me wrong -- I expect ASIB to be an amazing movie. I believe in the Oscar hype. I believe the music, acting, and cinematography will be great. But that review seems ... too good to be true?

There will always be a negative stone cast, and most reviews will talk about the bad too ... but this didn't overtly criticize any aspect of it?

& now that it's been out, I've seen it shared across social media platforms and news articles covering it. I've even seen posts from people outside of stans. Even locals! Even my family members have sent it to me.

It clearly has people talking. It's hard to write, edit, find pictures AND publish it online 'accidentally'. I've worked with that software in college and ... I could see it being a mistake but it seems more intentional.

I could see Warner Brothers pushing that review out (if they knew about it) so that'll be the narrative before the official reviews coming out; so people will remember that more than any potential negative review.

Thoughts?

EDIT: I believe those were his opinions and it wasn't a doctored review. I believe Warner Brothers just sent it out early on purpose to help stimulate positive promotion.

Most reviewers will write ahead of time and upload to their CMS with instructions to queue and post on a specific day.  It’s pretty easy to forget the post delay time or mess it up in which case it posts early. Or the website might have “accidentally” posted it early on purpose to get page hits, that happens too especially for smaller sites.  If Warner was going to fake a review leak I think they’d use a bigger and more prestigious site.

I think this is just a sloppier reviewer/website. I would highly doubt it would be purposeful, also, it's a review no one would really care about tbh. Personally, I'm not putting too much stock in that person's opinion, despite being very optimistic in general, like you.

for those who don't know CMS=Content Management System, which is the type of software used to post in blogs and stuff :sis:

Well I think it might have backfired because Vulture posted an article today laughing about this review saying like "So apparently ASIB is the best movie of all time". Putting expectations so high can only destroy the movie later... I'm worried.

If Peter Bradshaw from The Guardian wrote it I would be more hyped. It seems like a stan wrote it :wtfga:

I think we can expect a very positive review from him as well.

Exacly. It wasn't staged. The film appears to be brilliant.

Some movies have the magic to touch your heart in deeper levels than the others. Everyone is different. So, go with no expectations and enjoy your time. I believe in the author of the article. :)

I don’t think there will be many bad reviews. I’m sure the movie will be great but if anything, I feel like the reviews are going to be over the top praiseworthy regardless if it’s deserved or not— but I think it will be deserved.

Hollywood is in dire straits as is, so critics probably won’t be as harsh as usual. Plus Cooper is as elite as they come so they won’t dare go after his project...

Don’t come for me I just don’t see them being overly negative or nit picky.. Hollywood wants this movie to succeed.

I think they just forgot about the date.

WB doesn't need to publish that review to create a narrative. The narrative has already been created. I don't know if they are responsible for it, but it's already done thanks to all those earlier critics/celebrities who saw it and praised it. I expect lots of positive reviews come Friday because once a narrative is set, it's hard to go against it without looking like a hater.
