This is a poor way to calculate whether a critic is decent or not. His scores can't be properly compared with the overall tomato meter. They represent completely different things

I agree. Critics have different views about things. The fact that he doesn't follow the majority sometimes doesn't mean that his opinion is less valid than the rest. In fact it's the opposite, in my opinion. It means he has his own vision and is committed to it.

Also, I don't think we should give so much power to critics, anyway. These are only opinions and reflections. They're not gods with the final decision on the quality of a movie.

Let's hope the film is well received, of course, but at the same time let's be aware that each experience is unique and totally valid.

100%. I also want to mention the sheer volume of movies he's watched over his career is overwhelming. A critic with that kind of experience is more likely to underrate than overrate.

O.o Damn this guy must have been on ecstasy when he watched this movie, he loved it sooooo much. Too much even. I can't even respect his review or get any meaningful information from it because it basically says  "Yaaaas yas yas yaaaaaaaaaaaaasss!!!" but with fancier words.

Guys..

I don't remember a review like this for any of the last three Best Actress winners..

Whats working in Gaga's favor is she's new  - she's fresh  - to the film world - and the bar is set unbelievably low for pop stars..

If she was just good - it would be a major accomplishment and the critics would be generous in their praise....

If she is brilliant - She becomes her generation's Frank Sinatra!

and I have a feeling.....................................

reading the review gave me chills Cooper might be one of the greatest directors if ASIB isn't just a fluke- the reviewer really knows his stuff given the films he name dropped and compared ASIB to. I hope he's started working on directing another film

He will direct and star in a Leonard Bernstein biopic. Steven Spielberg, as a producer of the said film, was so impressed in A Star Is Born that he assigned him to direct the film.

Lol. As some of you predicted. The review has been turned down for now: This article has been momentary suspended. No official review can be posted before Friday.

don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but early positive reviews are almost always rewarded by the studios... take all this praise with a grain of salt

If you're new to film criticism, then it would read like love letter from a delusional fan. But this isn't music criticism where much of the content can be subjective. Usually the elements of a film that make or break it are pretty black and white. I got a ton of meaningful information from it and more so than I have from many reviews I've read before it.

The critic is either an impressive liar who doesn't mind throwing his credibility down the drain or this movie is actually great. I don't really know if there can be any in-between situation because the review was really so thorough. The only thing he missed reviewing was the music but it seems like he left it out because he's didn't want to mix subjective criticism with the objective.

That was an informative comment, thanks for the reply! It's true, I am new to reading film reviews, I've never been much of a movie buff or cared at all about who is winning movie awards until mah girl was involved.

This critic was a Little Tonyster and since Gaga collaborated with his fav,  he threw us an amazing YAAAaaaas review for A Star is Born.

But now he got in trouble.
