rumours 45,521
Oh no I didn't always agree with the guy politically, but he was a decent human being, which is more than can be said about most politicians (regardless of left or right). RIP John McCain and prayers for the McCain family

Buddy 5,686
Aw, no!!!! This makes me incredibly sad. I watched the The View every morning this past season, and though I don't agree with her politically, it pains me to think what Meghan must be feeling right now. I hope people can put aside political disagreements for a second and be respectful.

GypsyBabe 22,836
Very sad. My aunt died from brain cancer when she was in her 40s. No one deserves to be in so much pain and to suffer that way. Whether or not you agree with his politics (I do not agree) John McCain was a good person with character. I feel sorry for his family. Rest In Peace. ⚯͛
Guest
He is one of the more genuinely tolerant politicians of the last decade. He was once Pro DADT, to then standing against the GOPs efforts to erode LGBT protections in defense reauthorization bill a couple years ago. May he rest in peace. SKANK 14,288
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McCain I suggest taking a moment to read about his extraordinary and brave life. He will rightly be remembered as an American icon.

He will rightly be remembered as an American icon. Exactly. He did some wonderful and brave things throughout his life. Imagine that he denied the ability to go home and not be a POW anymore and he chose to stay and further his torture (for another two years) because he didn’t want to leave his men behind. I didn’t agree with him a lot of the time, but I did have respect for him. ⚯͛

Othon 34,299
I'm not saying anyone needs to be dancing on his grave, but before everyone starts with the "I didn't agree with him politically but he was a decent man" platitudes without actually knowing anything about what he's done over the course of his career, I think it's important to remember that this man passionately fought for the US' invasion of numerous, numerous Middle Eastern nations that we subsequently destroyed, leaving millions of innocent people dead in our wake (he once joked, in response to a redneck's question about what the US was going to do about "these people" in the Middle East, that we had to "bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran"), has helped facilitate the deportation of millions of Mexican immigrants trying to build a better life for themselves, and was more of a war criminal than a "war hero." He was shot down and captured while attempting to bomb a civilian lightbulb factory in Vietnam, intentionally trying to murder civilians (which is, according to international law and basic codes of human decency, a war crime). And that's just the tip of the iceberg with this guy. It would take days to detail all of the ways in which he's taken advantage of and further subjugated oppressed peoples. His entire political career was defined by blatant racism, imperialistic international bloodshed, and the systematic oppression of POC, queer people, and the poor and working class in this country. The fact that he once told a woman that President Obama wasn't actually a Muslim doesn't erase that history. Think before you fawningly eulogize this man.
