Why is A Star Is Born such an enduring story?

Ultimately, it's a love story, and audiences love to watch stories about love. It's also a love story told with music, which is why it is timeless and why it is fresh. The music is fresh to this generation, and each previous incarnation has very much been about that time period when the movie came out. So this new one stands alone as its own contemporary retelling.

Lady Gaga hasn't had a lot of
experience as an actor. Did you make any adjustments, like
extra rehearsal time, for that?

It was not about extra rehearsal time. It was about the environment that Bradley created on set that allowed everybody to bring the best that they had to give. All the music in the movie was sung live, which was something that Lady Gaga insisted on to have the most authenticity. Bradley fully embraced the idea and committed to it. And she was a real warrior. She performed both weekends at Coachella — and
then we shot on their stages,
and brought in our own crowds, during the week.

Did your background in indie film come into play?

Obviously, it was very much
a Warner Bros. movie, and you have the support of the Warner Bros. back office and the wonderful people who work at that studio. But then there's never enough money to make movies like this, and you have to get really creative — Bradley called Kris Kristofferson, who [starred in the 1976 version and] was performing at [the] Glastonbury [Festival], and asked if he could have part of his set,
and Kris gave us four minutes. Bradley went with our cinematographer and one camera and our sound guy, and they went up on the stage and he performed a song twice, and
it has a very electric feel to it. That was more in the spirit of independent filmmaking — beg, borrow and steal — and sometimes
it makes the film feel more alive.

For the moment I really feel they emphasize the promo more on Bradley than Lady Gaga, just my feeling

Well as Gaga said on Howard Stern, Bradley IS A Star is Born.  But I think the 2nd trailer will have more Gaga and come September it is her image that will get the press interested.

He’s also a name people go to see movies for. We must face it, this will be an uphill battle for Gaga to win people over with, there is always a snooty attitude from the GP/critics towards music stars who do movies.

mte, I'd rather they promote the movie from Bradley's name and "hey it happens to have Gaga as the protagonist and she's great" rather than have a "come see this movie because Lady Gaga is in it", we've seen it, pop stars in movies don't work.

This is so negative. Gaga might be torn to shreds, but we don't know how it'll be perceived yet.

I'd say the promo should be equal for both names.. I have seen nothing but humongous praise for Gaga since the trailer has been out.. Im sure she's gonna solidify her mark as an actress, which she has already shown the world with her stellar performance in AHS.. She's not some random pop star like Rita ora in a Fifty Shades franchise.. She's Lady GAGA.. She's gonna totally own this.. Period ❤️

Negative? Not really. I think it’s better that they promote this way than a “Lady Gaga's first movie watch now” way. :vegas:

Not even one page in and we've already started with the negativity :madge:

The promo is heavy on Bradley because it's HIS project! Gaga is just along for the ride, and if she gains some credibility as a serious actress and gets an Oscar nom or two (which I'm pretty sure she will), great!

I think most people don't realize that this is a vanity project for Bradley, but that's probably because people associate vanity projects with women. I think it also helps to market it with Bradley at first because his name is more established in the movie world & therefore it helps give the project a different kind of credibility than if it were just a Gaga movie alone (this project already has a different type of hype than Crossroads or Glitter for example).

I agree somewhat, but it's still Gaga's project too. She wrote the soundtrack and is half of the story.
