Sweetener is underrated

Not by critics but by this site....

While it may not have the same catchy choruses as Dangerous Woman, I think Sweetener is def underrated by GGD. So many people listed it as the worst album of 2018 in another thread which really confused me.

I think it's such a mature and diverse album. You have GIAW, NTLTC, Breathin, every time, and goodnight n go which have your typical pop structure and insanely catchy melodies. Then, you have the R&B, experimental vibes with REM, Better Off (kind of), Get well soon. And then more pop/trap experimentation with borderline, sweetener, the light is coming, etc. I will agree that blazed and successful are not that great of songs.

However, even though it's different, I think there is so much to appreciate with this album. It really amazes me how none of the songs share the same structure, production, or composition. Each song gives me a completely different vibe and the album as a whole does a great job of showing off Ariana's strength, from vocals to lyricism to musicality. I think Sweetener really showcased Ariana's artistic growth away from basic pop (and I think the GP felt that too) but for some reason, almost everyone here hates it.

honestly i was expecting the album to be like NTLTC so at first it was a let down. but the more i listen to it to more i appreciate how different it is from her previous work. the pharrell songs really grew on me and they are bops in their own way. I really love the album now. We still have DW to listen to if we want catchy pop tracks, Sweetener is it's own thing :ohwell:

VOLANTIS

To me this album only keeps getting better with every listen. I'm not at all bothered with Pharrell's work tbh. The only track I skip is The Light is coming and it's only because I overplayed that. I absolutely love this project.

I'll lift you 3 inches off the ground and drag you to a meter and a half

I love Ariana but honestly I found the album somewhat underwhelming. It's missing something that her other albums had.

Best songs are Breathin, GIAW, NTLTC, Everytime.

Chromatic

no tears left to cry is a bop. I hated it at first, but it grew on me. I haven't listen to the album yet, and I never had the intentions to, but watching the interview, where she breaks into to tears, got me interested. I think, that this album has been her way of processing the terror attack.

First of all, I appreciate the fact that Ariana wrote most of this album herself, which shows that is more artistically involved than before and I think this is good thing.

I like 5-6 songs but I'm neutral for the rest, same with Dangerous Woman. A lot of the R&B of songs go nowhere and seems like they were crafted only to the indent of showcasing her voice. On top of that, her breathy, thin voice is not my cup of tea. I do believe is a cohesive, well-crafted album though, just nothing extraordinary.
