Y’all can @ at me but Joanne doesn’t feel like a Lady Gaga album to me. It doesn’t stand out in any particular way and, while I actually like a few tracks, I just stopped listening to the album as a whole after a few months, maybe weeks even.

ARTPOP I can listen to every week and never grow tired of it. I know GGD likes to bash the hell out of it because of the whole bad management choices, the way Gaga hurt during and because of this era, the R. Kelly situation and the stigma that it’s from here that the downfall began, but the album is fire. It’s NOT her best album, there are a thousands ways it could’ve been better, but it’s definitely a better one than Joanne.

SHORT ANSWER: the one you can kill your boyfriend and leave him in the trunk on highway 10 while you BOP yo ass to it.

YESSSSSS ITS THE ALBUM OF THE MILLENNIUM!!!! :firega:

I love all her albums like children!

I find a lot of similar compliments to say about each album as I write this

And both albums have 1 song I pretty much always skip (JnD, Sinner's Prayer)

They're so different though it really just comes down to preference :oprah:

I racked my brain on this for like 15 mins I wrote so much and deleted a whole lot oof :koons:

anyway my vote is ARTPOP!

ARTPOP's track list is practically flawless and it feels so good to reach Applause by the end

PS I move out tomorrow and here I am at 12:30am having a philosophical conversation with myself about these two albums :saladga:

well her attitude towards ARTPOP's concept before and right before its release was initially very serious. she wanted to really push this idea of putting art before pop so you can't blame people for being mistaken when picking out lines like that when she's walking around trying her best to be taken seriously as a performance artist, like a genuine artist, not just a pop singer (literally collaborating with big names in the art industry)

there seems to be a lot more "camp" and "humour" than she wanted or explained apart from saying it was "her pain exploding through electronic music" which can explain the nonsense lyrics to an extent but when does the "art before pop" come in to the music? on ARTPOP and Applause? that brings up the point of it's lack of cohesion

there's also other lyrics like "dance, sex, art, pop, tech", "i can't believe i'm telling you this, but i've had a couple drinks and... oh my god" and "but then i trip upon myself and i fall, i stand up, and then i'm okay" are just corny and cheesy no matter how camp the song

I think that was one of the points of ARTPOP. For me the whole album is about duality and I could talk about it for hours, but one of the themes is the duality between serious and fun. She wants to show that she can be both at the same time, in art, in music and in life.

For example she makes a parallel between classic art and contemporary art. Classic art is respected, it's universally recognized as being beautiful, authentic, serious, and it takes a lot of skills to do a painting like De Vinci or Boticelli did. And on the other hand you have contemporary art which raises a lot of eyebrows. It's often more about the meaning and the intent than the technical skills. There's something very raw and fun about it, like Millie Brown vomits to paint and she doesn't know what the result will be, what the painting will look like. I think that's what she tried to do in some parts of the album, just throw and "vomit" what she was thinking at the moment and stick everything together like a patchwork.

So you have the opposites - Donatella and Dope being the least and most serious songs on the album - but mostly she just mixes everything. Swine is about rape, and yet she turns it into something ecstatic, almost fun. Fashion! is just a fun song about "looking good and feeling fine" and yet she serves some vocals as the good singer she is. Lines like "i can't believe i'm telling you this, but i've had a couple drinks and... oh my god" are here to remind us that we shouldn't take everything too seriously, she's just a person having fun in her studio. You also have to stratch a little to find the seriousness in the music and what she really means - G.U.Y being in part about the music industry, the pain behind Mary Jane Holland etc. She wants people to be able to enjoy themselves but also find relief in their pain if they need it.

  • Admin changed the title to Joanne VS ARTPOP: Better Album?

Ya'll tryna say "production wise" for Joanne, lmaoo that doesn't mean anything, ARTPOP obviously had more professionals working with it and the way many of those songs are produced to come out of the speakers is amazing. Every song on ARTPOP sounds very different and a complete different atmosphere compared to other artists.

I LOVE Joanne though!
