And as much as "Makeup has no gender" I guess it's less for people who want a full face of makeup and just wanna correct some small things and with a more neutral product design (and without the embarrassing af names for all the products that sound like some 12 year old came up with) Baby steps. I don’t wear heavy make up, I only do foundation and my brows so who am I to say? But I have never found products from “normal” make up work for me but a use the BB moisturiser from Lab Series, a brand targeted at male users and it worked perfectly for me coz it is better at oil control and the color is good. That’s how these things usually work I didn’t realize makeup had a gender. etc etc... Why would anyone buy this when they could just buy literally any other makeup? Much like pens do not need to be gendered, neither does makeup. Simply advertising with male models does a better job. I do feel for them trying, but I think this move is misguided. This line might encourage more brands to break through these gender constructs. While it's more ideal for men to simply use makeup as they wish, the reality is society finds it unacceptable (less so for gay men today, but extremely so for straight men) for men to wear makeup. As big brands (like Chanel) begin marketing makeup toward men we might find the status quo change drastically over the next few decades (yes decades. Progress doesn't just happen like that). I think South Korea is a little more open to men wearing makeup (any SK monsters for insights?) but this could expand to more markets. I for one welcome the move by Chanel and hope drugstore brands follow suit Maybe one day there won't be a "for men" line and makeup overall opens up to everyone. Most of the time I find make-up products too rough, too much, etc. I need something subtle. Most male/female health and personal care products have no chemical or structural differences (for example, the pink for women razors are exactly the same as the men shaving razors). The same goes with hair dye. The formula for regular hair dyes is the same as men's hair dyes. The make-up industry is extremely big. If you haven't been able to find a fitting low coverage foundation yet it's because you basically don't know how to apply it. I don't get how anyone can be enthusiastic about this or think this is a step towards something.
